‘Dappled glade’ 🍃🍂🦋- a new piece I did with alcohol markers and acrylic markers layered on top. Still experimenting with finding my style and loving the process!

I drew inspiration from artist Janice Gay Maker and her lovely impressionist style :)

Playing around with mixed media today! ✨🖍️ I used alcohol markers, acrylic markers and pencils (in that order) for this colourful village town.

I find it important to know what has to go down first when using different media. The ‘fat over lean’ rule generally applies. Alcohol markers are the ‘leanest’, followed by acrylic then wax pencils on top.

AHHHHHHHHHHHhhhh oh okay phew.

I wasn’t loving the sky once I’d painted my mountains, but by then I was so far in that it was really scary to try and redo half the painting. But…worth it :) by @rubyclareart

And she’s done!! “Three sisters”, 50 x 61 cm, oil on canvas. And my biggest piece to date!

The Three Sisters - Meehni (922 m), Wimlah (918 m), and Gunnedoo (906m), are a famous rock formation within the Blue Mountains in New South Wales. My parents visited back in 2022 and my mum snapped a nice reference pic for me. But… I had my way with it and added many more colours. I’d really love to visit the Blue Mountains myself and experience such an iconic Australian natural beauty.

Ngl this piece took a while. I juggle a 9 to 5 and train jiu jitsu 4 nights a week and by the time I get home I am dead!! But I’m so proud I pushed through.

The obsession with alcohol markers continues!

I’ve ventured into the world of portraits (thank you to my lovely models George and Alaska)! But I wanted to add some added visual elements to make it more custom.

My first attempt felt rushed and his proportions didn’t feel 100% right. BUTTT in my second attempt I took my time to get the sketch right and got a bit adventurous with the colours. I feel like you can really see the improvement between these two. 🥰

I’m thinking about taking commissions for these eventually. Would you want one of these? by @rubyclareart

A friend of mine gifted me literally 🔥DOZENS🔥 of Copic alcohol markers (shout out Hamo).

Sooo I decided to use them for this study of a painting by @squatchgouache. I loved the colours he used and the fantasy feeling it evokes.
I finished it off with some of my acrylic markers to layer highlights on top. Enjoy the skritchy marker sounds (and my apparently heavy breathing lol) x

Gonna have to do more!
