(2 of 2) The Pietasters 🥧
Danced with my lil dude and got to show him what it’s like when mommy goes out to her “concerts” 💜 I told him we get to be loud and silly, so he leaned in to that.

Improvisation and flexibility are crucial with a small human, so we enjoyed the last bits of Pie 🎶 from the hallway and the outdoor lounge area. As we were walking to the car, Stay Out All Night was playing so I sang “I’m gonna stay out all night…until we have to go home” 😆

(1 of 2) Doing my part of indoctrinate the youth (4 yo) to love ska, reggae, big brass, live music in general, and dancing. Here we are at The Recher vibing to one of the best —The Players Band. It was a lot of work taking a preschooler to a ska show, but we did it and managed to make a great time of it! Got zero photos with people because I was momming, but loved seeing the friendly faces 🖤🤍🖤 taken in The Recher by @rude_wanderer

Supernova ’26: Sunday
🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤

Sunday involved an irresponsible number of trips in and out of the merch tent as if money didn’t matter, plus a rude girl / rude boy photo with my boogie buddy Ted, and the honor of meeting the sweet Douglas Adams — Jeremy’s cat, a gentleman and scholar (I presume).

I popped over to the kids tent for a bit to hang with Andi and Chris and their son while he helped craft parts of the Ska Kidz Assemble (SKA) golden robot 🤖, then later caught the SKA parade rolling through during Rude Girl Revue’s set.

I loved getting time to chat with so many amazing people. I somehow missed all the big group photos with the giant inflatable crab 🦀, but managed to pull a few people in for a distance shot so I could at least pretend I participated.

One of my favorite parts of the day was helping to coordinate group shots by the LOVE sign near the dunes, looking back over the whole festival. I was lucky enough to be part of more than one photo there with some really great people.

The traditional car beers also continued, and the infamous trunk ham finally met its destiny in Jimmy’s belly.

The Planet Smashers were a blast, and The Pietasters set was one of my favorites of the whole weekend. I could not stop dancing long enough to properly document it, but I did manage to pause for a few videos. Anyone who knows me knows that The Pietasters are my church. I was so full by the end of this night 💜

We finished the night back at The Vanguard for JER, Omnigone (not pictured), and Los Mal Hablados.

The goodbye hugs were not enough. I felt more than a little brokenhearted that ska camp had to come to an end and we all had to go our separate ways back to “real life,” but I guess we’ll always have Supernova and hopefully many more ska shows to come! 🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤

Supernova ’26: Saturday — After the Storm 🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤

When we heard the gates had reopened, we hurried back to Fort Monroe. One of the coolest moments of the night was Derrick Morgan’s set backed by Eastern Standard Time, with Lynval Golding joining them onstage. You could feel the reverence in the air, and I remember stopping to take it all in.

I was right up front for Out of Control Army, who absolutely stole the night and my rude little heart.

We headed to The Vanguard for the after-party with Mobtown and The Slackers, who I’m grateful I got to see so much of this Supernova! When I have almost no footage, that usually means I was dancing the whole damn time 💃 which I was @jevilscontracting

I heard the other show at Stuft was unbelievable too, and I think we all wish we could’ve been in two places at once that night (video from Stuft by Shon 💜 @confusedaccent).

Supernova ’26: Saturday — Before the Storm 🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤

Saturday was the first full festival day, and a big thanks to @karole.herself Karole’s crew for adopting me early and folding me into their Supernova traditions, including a secret breakfast location 🥞🥓☕️

I made it through the mega-line in time for the last few songs of The Boy Detective and melted into the cuddle puddle (video by Shon 💜 @confusedaccent ). Caught up with Colleen and Jon for some Soularites / Old Dogs Ska love @thesoularites @olddogs_ska

I really enjoyed Jackie Mendez, Catbite, and The Aggrolites before the lightning strikes shut things down for a few hours. ⛈️ As the storm came in, we retreated to the parking lot for car beers and good laughs with the main crew: Ted, Chris, Alana, Mike, Jimmy, Karole, and George. Part 2 to come…

Supernova ’26: Friday
🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤

Friday at Fort Monroe was COTE Percussion, Detroit Riddim Crew, Yellow Dubmarine, and The Slackers.

Spent most of the day with folks I knew from DC, but met so many new faces along the way. Then Karole’s crew joined us at Josh’s Bar & Grill for karaoke 🎤 which was extra fun because so many of us knew all the niche ska/punk songs and could sing along, dance, and fully commit to the bit together to weird out the locals.

This was the day I started to understand why everybody gets so attached to Supernova 💜 #supernovaskafestival #ska #festival by @rude_wanderer
