Finally got into one of DC’s hottest restaurants 🔥- @chaipanidc. The tip is making a reservation and not walking in lolol 💁🏻‍♀️

We celebrated Hayden’s birthday last month by dining at Chai Pani, a popular Indian restaurant that’s originally from Asheville NC! My friends have raved about the OG location so I was so excited to try their menu. Having walked by a million times, I always admired their usage of bright, vibrant colors and I can say that the interior is even better!

We tried a lil bit of everything as recommended by our server and we really loved it all. I have to admit I’m trying to grow my Desi food knowledge so I apologize for my descriptions not being the best. But I do know that every bite was delicious, so flavorful, and unlike other things I’ve tried before. If you want a new and unique culinary experience, you need to check out Chai Pani for your next meal! ✨

Have you ever been to a place where you instantly felt at home? That’s what happened to me when I checked out @sixwaystosundaymd ❤️‍🔥 [collab]

From the brains of chefs Lekki and Satang, this Sino-Siamese kitchen is serving up delicious food and drinks that incorporates the best of Thai-Chinese cuisine. I first found out about their talent when I used to order from the popular supper club, @fatnomadsdc and fell in love with their bold, insanely flavorful dishes. I’ve been following them around the DMV as they pop up but I’m so happy they have finally opened up their own spot in Bethesda! This spot is adorned with lots of bright lights and comforting colors that make you feel at peace. They have lots of space so it’s perfect for girls nights and birthdays and the staff are super accommodating towards vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diners!

I truly enjoyed every bite and I can’t wait to come back to show my loved ones this special spot! My favorite dishes were the:

Proximity to good cafes is a must for me 💁🏻‍♀️

Have you checked out @seeyouatround inside of @laosintown yet? I am obsessed - I’ve been weekly since they recently opened and in love with all their signature drinks! Their matcha is super strong and has that strong grassy earthy taste that I love. It keeps me wired throughout the day too 🤪

Stopped by today to grab my fav, the strawberry matcha, but they told me about their new menu which just dropped this week! I got the ThaiThai Matcha which is a mix between Thai tea and matcha so it’s perfect for indecisive folks. I need to work my way through the new menu so see y’all next week 🫡

June was such a fun month despite all the craziness in DC! So grateful to live in this fun city and have a wonderful community to spend time with 💗 If you think DC is boring, spend more time outside like me 🤪

I braved the DC summer heat and checked out the Great American State Fair! Here’s what you need to know!

🗓️Goes on until July 10th and opens at 10am every day
➡️Enter at the 7th st and 12th st entrances
👮Police presence is heavy with MPD, National Guard, Secret Service and private security everywhere.
🙅🏻‍♀️TSA guidelines apply so don’t bring a bag or backpack. Other things prohibited are lighters, bug sprays, umbrellas, outside food/water and more. You can bring in a small clutch or clear bags.
💦Only one plastic water bottle allowed, no metal bottles (kinda annoying in this heat but ok…)

🇺🇸This event is put on by Freedom250, a partisan White House backed group. America250 is the nonpartisan group that was Congressionally created to plan the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Some states went all out! Florida was a crowd favorite with the manatee and orange groves. I also really liked Arizona🌵 and New York🌃

Some states were funded by their state tourism board or by prominent state businesses so that greatly affected the quality of their booth. At least every booth is air conditioned 😅

AI usage was prominent here. New Jersey has a really cool sand sculpture created by human hands but also pictures of AI generated George Washington at the Jersey Shore. I would’ve liked it if they kept it to pics of the Jersey Shore in the background or even pics of Snooki 🤪

States generally kept it focused on nonpartisan activities. Common themes were popular tourist attractions, prominent people from their state, and top industries in the state (think agriculture and business).

The most partisan aspect was the main stage that had right-leaning speakers preach to the crowd. When we were walking around, some quotes he said were, “the LGBTQ agenda,” “Democrats need to not focus on trans issues, and “the CIA is a force for good.” Sir, this is a Wendy’s….

I enjoyed Missouri’s usage of colorful lights and incorporating culture and industry into their design!

Grateful I don’t have to go all the way to Eden Center to get my banh mi fix 🙂‍↕️ty @beansnbanhmi

I recently tried a new banh mi spot in my neighborhood and it satisfied my constant banh mi cravings! Started by a sibling duo & best friends, Beans & Banh Mi is serving up delicious and creative Vietnamese sandwiches.

What makes their banh mi stand out to me is the usage of airy, thin crusted baguette as this is the authentic bread style found in Vietnamese bakeries. The chicken liver pâté is also a must for me - if it doesn’t have it, I don’t want it 🙅🏻‍♀️Upon biting into the sandwich, crumbs flew everywhere which is the sign of a fluffy Viet baguette. I love all the flavors together and so enjoyed the time I spent devouring this sandwich! Hope to see Beans around more hehe 🤭

Matcha popups are all the rage right now! One popup that was first on my radar is After School Coffee House and these childhood besties serve creative, fun matchas and hojichas (roasted green tea - more earthy and nutty for folks who don’t like matcha)! Since their inception, they have a dedicated fan base who will wait hours for their drinks.

I finally got to try a drink during their popup at @vintagevintagevintage.dc last weekend. Their special collab with @mangomamamango means that I had to get that one, the mango sago matcha latte 🍵🥭 As a mango lover, I will always choose THAT GIRL.

Upon my first sip, I was changed - the ceremonial grade matcha is STRONG, the mango purée accentuated the matcha and provides a nice fruity sweetness, and the sago balls is such a fun touch. It completely lived up to the hype and best of all, I didn’t have to wait in line to get my drink! 💃🏻🎉

🌱Love the 0.1% ABV Non-Alcoholic aperitif from @motherroot 🙂‍↕️#gifted

Y’all already know I’m a mocktail girly! Mother Root sent me their non-alc aperitif to try and I am a new fan - theirs has a gingery kick and is not too sweet (the best compliment ever)! After a long summer day, this drink is tangy and refreshing in the DC swampy heat 🌞

To make:
1️⃣Shake the bottle 8x - the aperitif should be perfectly cloudy! ☁️
2️⃣Mix 1 part Mother Root to 6 parts soda water
3️⃣Stir gently to combine
✨Optional: add a splash of juice to sweeten the drink and have a fun splash of color 🌈

Enjoy! This drink is a great way to unwind after a hard day’s work (but without the hangover side effects) 🤭

There are some chefs that are synonymous to DC. One of them is @chefseng, owner of @thipkhaodc and @padaekdc, and was instrumental to the growing wave of Laotian cuisine in the DMV and beyond 🇱🇦🇺🇸

I FINALLY got to try @baanmaedc, the newest restaurant by Chef Seng, and loved it. Having tried her other restaurants, I knew the food would be great. Baan Mae is a homage to food you find in your mom’s kitchen. There’s traditional Laotian dishes but also dishes from other Southeast Asian cultures - whatever you try, you’re bound to be happy.

My friend has been Baan Mae a few times before so he guided me on the dining exploration. We sampled a bit of their famous dishes like the sakoo and laabs but also wanted to try other entrees. As a noodle fan, I highly enjoyed the mee sua for its QQ and heavy umami flavors. Also, I like how you can find uncommon proteins here like squid, crab, & catfish - there’s even an emphasis on eating invasive fish (that special menu is only available at dine-in). I hope my next visit doesn’t take as long to happen 🙈

May was one of my best months yet - let’s keep this streak going! highlights include:
🌺spending a week in Hawaii with my mom, sister and gf. Lifelong memories were made and I have been changed (for good 🎶)
🏮celebrated AAPI month by attending a gala with AAPI officials, meeting cool & dedicated progressive young folks, and seeing my friends and dining at the hottest Asian restaurants - we’re all doing awesome things!!
🏛️enjoyed spending time in DC experiencing the plethora of activities we have - Jazz in the Garden, local theater nights, watching new movies

going from AAPI month to Pride is not for the weak… pray for me this June 🤪🌈🤗
