New Piece (Sorta)! It's a piece for TTBB ensemble inspired by the first 2 chapters of Ezekiel, using different structures to frame the story. I would also like this to be the first movement of a much longer suite for a full choir all revolving around the depiction of angels. This is also vocal midi and sounds as such. by @rudywebbcomp

Baptism by Dirt is a poem by @frankxwalker this poem is specifically extremely impactful for me growing up through the blood of rural west Tennessee. I often haven’t felt God through a church or religious institution, but through the views of countryside and kinship I have come to value the daily presence I feel. The direct symbolistic impact I feel from being out in that environment, compared to texts like “Pray in the dirt” and “burying all her heavy things” and the references of family and sacred whispers made this an extremely important text to me. My goal in transferring this text into a choral piece was to specifically reflect my connection with this poem to my upbringing, choosing to highlight certain things through orchestrational techniques. by @rudywebbcomp

Movement as a Principle is a SATB saxophone quartet inspired by @goozebutter series “The Mean 13” through all the pieces the main thing that stuck me was the active movement of each painting. There was always some form of movement or action to push your eyes in different directions. While each painting has a separate and distinct connection, I wanted to convey the movement of each painting and how it’s shown even through different connections. Using fast alternating rhythms and laying voices, the sense of movement is at the forefront. by @rudywebbcomp

An incredible way to end the semester, It’s probably been the most stressful week of my college career but definitely the most rewarding. I had an absolutely fantastic lesson with Dr. Frank Ticheli and got to wrap up with week with @jorge_variego who has helped me immensely this semester. I’m incredibly excited for some of the projects that i’m working on and I’m enjoying the process more and more every day! by @rudywebbcomp

"for I did not know" - 2025for fixed media and solo trumpet New Piece! I was deeply challenged this semester to write something that was completely striped of traditional notation, and I believe that this is a great answer to that challenge. It will be premiered this month and I'm extremely excited about it! by @rudywebbcomp

POLYTROPOS/TOÚTPOTOSBy: Rudy WebbThe fifth word of The Odyssey is heavily contested. Etymologically it means “many turns” but is applied to the main character Odysseus. The difficulty for translators lies in the difference between an active voice versus a passive voice. Is Odysseus the one seeking out this journey, or is it simply happening to him in an unfortunate sequence of events? Robert Fagle renders this literally with “A man of many twists and turns.” and Robert Fitzgerald translates this as “Skilled in all ways of contending.” Emily Wilson translates this epithet as simply “Complicated.” POLYTROPOS explores this idea of active versus passive voicing throughout the piece as a depiction of an inherent point of life and the Odyssey. by @rudywebbcomp

New Music!!! (Finally).Hear is a programmatic piece that follows my first year in music school while also balancing substantial hearing loss, and was written over the entire year. It shows my mental journey through my time at the University of Tennessee's College of Music, from finding out about my hearing problems and those problems substantiating the disconnect I felt with the people around me and ultimately battling to even have a love of music anymore. This ebb and flow of metal strain in trying to stay connected yet feeling like it was an arduous task and took an extreme toll on me. Each respective “movement” in HEAR is represented by a letter. ..H: The time of my diagnosis (Beginning to 29)E: Actively trying to work past the issues that faced me (29-97)A: Resilience that ultimately feels like it has failed me (97-169)R: Questioning on what is next for me and my career (169-End).. Special thanks to @ryanlindveit for really working with me on this piece and helping develop my compositional voice! by @rudywebbcomp

Next double bar line of the year! This piece goes through my recent diagnoses of profound hearing loss, and the turmoil of wondering if I can continue my art and career, but after testing out hearing aids in a clinic it became obvious that it would only help my quality of life, and “How sweet, that sound” really is. by @rudywebbcomp
