POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I am delighted to be able to reveal the final cover of Dwell, my debut novel which will be published on 11th June. The design is based on the works of Maurice Pillard Verneuil, an artist active when Dwell is set, in 1919 and 1920. It shows wisteria, which is associated with romantic love, and swallows, which mate for life, sometimes in pairs where both are male.
Thanks so much to the Northodox team. It’s absolutely perfect!
Dwell will be published June 11th, and is currently available to preorder

Safe to say that we've all been excited about @rue.baldry 's short story debut - and here it is! 'Nice Things' publishing December 2026, and it will be worth the wait.

Stories examining class, race, gender, and sexuality through the lens of physical spaces and who is allowed to occupy them.

Opening with the Commonwealth Prize-winning "Lech, Prince, and the Nice Things," the collection weaves through teenage sexual awakening, family secrets, and post-pandemic isolation. Characters grapple with class divisions, discrimination, and desires they barely understand themselves.

I had a wonderful time listening to LC Winter @libbythescribbler and Anna Caig @annacaig talking about their witchy historical novels in Boroughbridge! I’m really looking forward to reading The Wise Witch Of Orkney and Spider Spider! I’m used to seeing lost mittens on walls. But this pair of shoes on a fence goes a step further! I hope whoever lost them didn’t hurt their feet by @rue.baldry

I am so proud to have received this endorsement of my short story collection, Nice Things, from the genius of story writing who is Ruth Thomas. Her collection Super Girl is brilliant and I recommend any aspiring story writers who haven’t read it to do so. It means an enormous amount to me that she has such a high opinion of my stories in Nice Things.
Nice Things is available to preorder from bookshops online and physical, and also from the Fly On The Wall website https://www.flyonthewallpress.co.uk/product-page/nice-things-by-rue-baldry . It will be published at the beginning of December
Ruth Thomas has said: “Funny, odd, occasionally eerie and truly original. Rue Baldry is a wonderful conveyor of the weirdness of life as well as its gentler moments and revelations. It’s exciting to come across someone who writes so boldly without ever losing sight of the small and telling detail. The title is an ironic nod to things that are not ‘nice’ but perhaps have the potential to be. I love the focus, too, on domestic grot, events that go pear-shaped, compromised relationships and the awkward trappings of everyday existence. I will be pressing this book into the hands of anyone looking for tales of the unsung, the under-acknowledged and those looking for the remarkable in ordinary things”

I will be signing Dwell in Boroughbridge at the brilliant Beloved Books on Friday 2nd October. There will be copies available to buy on the day. It’s the story of the love between two traumatised young men in 1919 — historical, queer, accessible literary fiction which has already won prizes! 5.30pm til 6.30pm. I’m really looking forward to meeting readers and to getting back to lovely Boroughbridge
