The Fine Balance of Central Europe: Master Pipe Makers Gather for Craft Dialogue and Charitable Auction
Held at CASA de YUNHE on September 19, The Fine Balance of Central Europe gathered five distinguished Central European pipe-making masters for cross-cultural craft dialogue, interactive creation and charitable auction.
The participating masters include Dirk Heinemann, Juergen Moritz, Uwe Jopp, Gregor Lobnik and Christian Ruetz. They shared professional insights into traditional pipe craftsmanship inheritance and innovation. On-site, Dirk, Juergen and Christian co-created pipes with three invited guests, offering an authentic hands-on craft experience.
The exclusive charitable auction turned fine pipe artworks into symbols of goodwill, empowering traditional craftsmanship with warm social value beyond technical exchange.
The event highlights the elegance of European pipe-making art, balancing craft inheritance and public benevolence, and enriches Sino-European handmade cultural exchanges. taken in Shenyang, Liaoning by @ruetzpipes

I am back 😎 It was the first time since I started making pipes full time I took a week off – after the wonderful and exciting but also exhausting travel to China it was well needed. I spent a lot of time in nature and that means: I am back in my workshop with soooo much inspiration. 🌱

Today I show you this rare bamboo pipe I made, because I will never forget my first time in China. 🐉 I also brought home some bamboo from China a really nice guy gifted me and am excited to work with it.

Back in the workshop. Motivated, inspired, thankful. Any pipe wishes? taken in Shenyang, Liaoning by @ruetzpipes

Thank you, China 🫶🏻 🐉

Pipe making opened a whole new world to me. When I started making pipes I would have described myself as an open-minded person – little I knew that the journey of becoming a full-time pipe maker would let me redefine being open-minded. Getting to know people from all over the world and different cultures showed in so many different ways how lucky I am to have been gifted this life.

Thanks for the invitation to wonderful China @alanqianpj. I bring home wonderful memories about unbelievable hospitality, incredibly delicious food, generosity, an inspiring passion for pipes and first and foremost friendship. When we see the humanity in each other, kindness becomes easy.

It was special for me to spend my first time in China with two of my best friends – @heinemannpipes and @jingqui. Thanks for being the best travel companions I could have asked for, especially because the both of you made it easier for Dagi and me that she couldn’t join us.

This year’s @smokingpipescom Global Pipe Making Exposition was all about „The Art of Sandblasting“ and finally I can present my pipe 🥳 With my interpretation of this year’s chosen focus I wanted to show the possibilites of contrast, depths of texture and visual character in a modern artistic way. By making the pattern without a template the pipe involuntarily revealed a nice snake on the bottom which in my opinion shows the power of art and interpretation.

Would love to hear how you like my this year’s Expo pipe for @smokingpipescom. If interested check out their website 😎 taken in Loris, South Carolina by @ruetzpipes

My first pipe with the grade „sunrise peak“ in pictures. The silhouette of the Acherkogel with a rising sun 🏔️☀️, the northernmost 3.000 meter peak in the Alps and my wife’s favourite mountain, seemed to be a perfect symbol for such sparkling birds’s eyes and sharp lines of straight grain. Mother Earth is such an artist 💚

If you want to get the chance to grab the first (there will never be a first again 😎) ruetz high grade DM me 🪶 taken in Tyrol Region - Austrian Alps by @ruetzpipes

May I proudly present: ruetzpipes peak – my exclusive high grade series 🏔️

When you grow up in the Alps, it’s quite easy to lose a part of your heart to the mountains. Therefore it seemed somehow naturally that this special project will be all about the mountains inspiring and surrounding me in my life as a pipe maker. 🏔️

Part one – the grading
Only a few pipes per year will be part of this series and get one of the unique and rarely used stamps.
The peak grade for extraordinary grain and the sunrise peak grade for extraordinary grain and distinctive shapes. The stamp features the silhouette of the Acherkogel – the northernmost 3,000-meter peak in the Alps and my wife’s favourite mountain. 🏔️☀️

Part two – the experience
In the true spirit of ruetzpipes the peak series comes with a box and a bag handcrafted from natural materials. A handcrafted box made of the „queen of the Alps“, the Swiss stone pine with a unique smell that even makes the opening of the box special. In the boxes you find a bag made of high-quality, eco-friendly cotton, handmade in Istanbul, and a certificate of authenticity.

Part three – the first pipe
It felt right to make the very first pipe of this high grade series one with my signature broken stem. Extraordinary grain with an extraordinary shape – this is what a ruetzpipes sunrise peak should offer to the discerning pipe smoker. 😎

The very first ruetzpipes high grade pipe. Sunrise peak. Dedicated to our home and my inspiration – Mother Earth. 💚🪶🏔️😎

If you are interested in this pipe just let me know via DM. Or just let me know how you like my new series 🥳 by @ruetzpipes
