Have you ever taken your hard hat off at the end of the day and your hair is just... stuck in there? Or maybe you’re breaking out on your forehead or the back of your neck and wondering what’s going on? Or losing hair where you definitely shouldn’t be? Or maybe your hard hat’s just plain uncomfortable. Either way, we’re here to help.

I designed these sweatbands while working as an underground miner, wearing a hard hat all day, every day. My hair started getting layers I definitely did not ask for (friction, turns out). I’m not one to fuss too much over how I look in a hard hat, but my hair falling out? That’s where I draw the line.

So in 2023, I made my first sweatband, just for me. It was pretty average, if I’m honest. But people started noticing them and wanting one too, and that’s how Ruff became a business.

Since then, we’ve invested in making our sweatbands as high quality as possible, much nicer than that first one I made, so they do the job well and last. We’re big believers that sweatbands should be treated like socks, jocks and knickers. You wear them, you wash them, you repeat. Almost every other piece of PPE gets washed regularly, so why not your sweatband too?

Now we’ve got thousands of sweatbands in hard hats all across Australia and overseas, and we’re so keen to make your hard hat more comfortable too!

Are workshop rags still taking up residence in your hard hat……? 👷‍♀️👷‍♂️

We’ve seen some pretty interesting things sitting under hard hats, and honestly, we don’t blame you.

The discomfort, the hair that seems to get a little thinner every day, the sweat that drips straight onto your face and neck, and that rash that just keeps getting worse. Sound familiar?

These are the most common reasons people reach for our sweatbands. My own driving factor was hair breakage. The hard hat was giving me layers I did not ask for.

As time has gone on, people have shared SO many reasons for wearing them, and honestly it’s pretty bloody awesome to hear that our sweatbands are helping people with all kinds of things going on under their hard hat.
