Some of you know me as the person behind @cmarc__, but what many of you might not know is that my journey actually began in architecture and design.

Over the past seven years, I’ve had the privilege of working across some incredible residential projects throughout Sydney, including my time at Stafford Architecture.

While CMARC has allowed me to explore my love for architecture through a different lens, I’ve quietly been working on something of my own.

I’m incredibly excited to finally introduce @rumamdesigns, my design practice, alongside one of its first completed projects, Beit Augustine.

Located in Sydney’s Inner West, Beit Augustine is a modest renovation, but one that holds enormous personal significance.

The name translates to House of Augustine in Arabic, paying tribute to the clients’ eldest son. In Lebanese culture, fathers are often affectionately referred to as the father of their eldest child, a tradition I wanted to celebrate through the home’s identity.

Throughout the project, Augustine was a familiar face at site meetings. We’d often talk about what he imagined his home would become and the memories his family would create within it. Naming the home after him felt like a fitting tribute to the family and a subtle nod to my own cultural heritage.

Much like my Lebanese upbringing, my approach to design embraces layers, contradictions and the coexistence of different materials, histories and cultural references. It’s about creating spaces that feel personal, lived-in and connected to the people who inhabit them.

What makes this project particularly special is that I had the opportunity to bring together everything I love doing. From design and styling through Rumam to photography and videography through CMARC, I’ve been fortunate enough to see this project through every creative stage.

A little full-circle moment, and hopefully the beginning of many more.

We won’t reveal too much just yet, but every pattern in our new collection begins with a feeling.

Sometimes it starts with a photograph. Sometimes it’s a memory, a place, a fleeting moment, or a colour that refuses to leave our minds. We draw a handful of tones from these inspirations and begin experimenting, testing combinations until a palette emerges that feels just right.

From there, we scale the artwork up, allowing colour to interact naturally across the surface. This stage is important, it creates opportunities for spontaneous brush movements, unexpected colour mixes, and moments that can’t be planned, only discovered.

Once the concept pattern takes shape, we collaborate with our upholsterer to produce small-scale samples, typically around 200 x 200mm. Different textures, weaves and finishes each bring a new dimension to the design, revealing details that can only be appreciated through touch.

For us, design is more than what you see. It’s about creating an experience that invites people to connect, explore and immerse themselves in the story behind each piece. Through colour, texture and craftsmanship, we hope every pattern carries a sense of its journey from inspiration to finished fabric. This version feels premium, design-led and aligned with a luxury textile or furniture collection.
