Out for summer with SJ ~ Series

This is really scary & welcome to my first ever series!!!!

This series is my 6 weeks off work, making fitness a priority but balancing everything else to fill my own cup and enjoy the summer.

Follow along to see what I get up to in the 6 weeks off, few ideas for you all to stay motivated and find that balance. I want to establish healthy routines and not be rushing round because of work. It’s not about being perfect it’s about being consistent! You’ll see my go to favourites, my down time guilty pleasures and calm away from the chaos ( I hope 👀).

Come along as I make the most of the time off, train for my 3rd half marathon (little secret we are digging deep for a sub 2hr), training myself using my own degree and the SGS app & start Hyrox training prepping for my first one in 2027. This is one big leap and I hope you all find something from this series! Follow along, give some support and always open some feedback and most of all let’s enjoy summer together!

Zone 2 training 🏃🏼‍♀️ ~ why?

I never used to do any zone training just used to run, either easy or hard and no matter what I was in z4 or z5 and never knew why! In last year or slow I’ve learnt to get quicker and better you have to run slower!

At first you don’t get it, you think you look stupid, you worry what other are thinking or get frustrated that you’ve gone all way z5 in a blink of an eye. First couple of times I did think I’d run then walk, I’d practically be walking how slow I was running and that’s okay. Not till over a year on from my first z2 run I’ve learnt nice and slow, relax and walks are okay too it’s about getting that crucial heart zone training in

Currently studying for my level 3 PT I’ve recovered this from my university degree a couple of years ago. The benefits to zone 2 training are:
🏃🏼‍♀️ Improves the efficiency cardiovascular 🫀 fitness
🏃🏼‍♀️ Mitochondria development
🏃🏼‍♀️ Endurance capabilities improves
🏃🏼‍♀️ Over time your heart rate in these zone drop and in a couple of years your Zone 4 could be your zone 3 or 2
🏃🏼‍♀️ Better recovery time between session

Zone 2 training can feel foreign for a while and not everyone’s is the same. Take in to consideration when you do it for example in the heat it will be harder and not on a flat route you may have to walk to make up for the elevation and for the girls where you are in your cycle. Top tips you should be at a conversational pace, do it with a friend and give it time takes a lot of practice. Today I really enjoyed a more slow pace and easier run to go out without headphones and enjoy the sun

Who else loves or hates zone 2 training?

The people who have helped me through my first half marathon

Nearly 25 weeks of training for my first half marathon and I’ve been so grateful to have best family and friends supporting me! As well there have been some inspiring women who have motivated me to keep going  and put the work in to be consistent

From professional athletes to relatable runners that popped up on my phone one day and I’ve followed me ever since

They have showed me hard work pays off, consistency will beat motivation & the importance of surrounding yourself with people you want to be

Sub 2hr attempt journey

Spoiler alert there is a number after that 2hr and that’s okay and I’ve so proud with result I got

2:03 was time I got in the @royalparkshalf on 11 oct of this year. From April to Oct I trained for a sub 2hr from long runs to harsh paces to easy run and did my best while being in work full time with 2 jobs.

Along the way I learnt how important it is to be mentally strong as well as physically strong to having the best support circle around you to using strategies to help you get through tough times.

I didn’t get my goal and that’s okay and social media is a hard place to be and I want my account to be a safe place. It’s okay to put your goals out there and you don’t get them on first try and that okay because we are all human.

This is your reminder that push yourself, train and if you don’t get the goal it’s not the end of world because you’ve still hit goals along the way and first attempt not met doesn’t mean failure and never

If I can inspire one runner or girlie to try for those hard goals and keep trying when you don’t get them I’ve done my job

Nothing beats supporting your loved ones 💪🩷🏃🏼‍♀️

Today I was the other side of the barrier for the first time ever on race day and that feeling is unmatched. I got to cheer on my best friends, cheer complete strangers, spot some famous faces and give back all the time someone shouted my name on race day and it got me through

2025 - my first half marathon
2026 - supporting my friends
2027 - 2nd time round @cardiffhalf (5th half)

Cardiff half is by far my favourite half marathon, which has unmatched crowds, atmosphere and race day experience. Myself and all friends agree Cardiff half is the best

On race day having someone shouting my name gives me the energy I need and gives me the lift I need. The support I have today seeing friends and strangers smile and keep going is a feeling only understandable if you’ve done it

So my advise to you if you’re a runner smile at that person in the crowd and if you’re supporter shout all the names you can. Receiving the support is an unmatched feeling and giving support is the same unmatched feeling.

Isn’t it crazy how race day is made by the supporters yes the runners do the running but the supporters get us through. From now on I’m gonna try and make as many races I can my friends do or locally and the be the support I love when I run

Abbathon 2026 ~ @runfanatics_ you out did yourself!

This is your post to remind you not every race has to be about time and PB’s and remember race days can be the most fun day on the Callander 🏃🏼‍♀️

Yes I love a race to get a time or PB but 2026 I’ve leant, discovered and enjoyed races for the fun memories, getting spend time with friends and just soaking up race day

Despite that I’d recommend one of these races for any reason because was the most fun day. From the costumes (which were 10/10 don’t know how people ran in them) , tribute acts, fun theme and atmosphere which was 10/10

So whether it be a your first or race of many book a fun one next it reminds you why you love running and it doesn’t have to be series

Training & recovery – 3 weeks until my 3rd half marathon with a sub-2 hour goal! 🏃🏼‍♀️💙

Week 11/14 of training is done… and the taper begins!

This week has consisted of:
🥊 First boxercise class
🏃🏼‍♀️ Long run 10k & parkrun
☑️ Gym
🐕 Dog walks
🍫 And a post-workout treat!

Being back at work, the cold has hit me, so this week has been about staying as consistent as possible, knowing my body, doing what I can, and listening to it. This session should have been higher weights and more rounds, but I took it easy and lowered the weight.

Week 11 of the plan wasn’t perfect — I missed 2 runs, and I’ve accepted that’s okay. Pushing through when my body needs recovery only delays recovery even more. I still moved my body, and I’ve done the hard work. These next few weeks are about keeping it up, slowing down, and trusting the taper.

Me last September would be proud of me right now.

Last September I was 2 weeks away from my first half marathon. I didn’t think a sub-27 minute parkrun was possible, a sub-1 hour 10k would happen, Hyrox would ever be for me, or that a marathon was even realistic.

A year on, I’ve run 2 half marathons, I’m training for a sub-2 half, I’ve run a sub-1 hour 10k and a 26-minute parkrun, I’m planning my first Hyrox for 2027, applied for London Marathon (denied 😅), and I’ve got a marathon goal for 2028.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY… I’m the happiest and fittest I’ve ever been.

A year ago I was at the start of my long-term goal. Now I look back at that girl with so much pride, and my first half marathon is still one of the best days of my life.

This is your sign to enjoy the journey, listen to your body, set goals that feel impossible, and celebrate every win.

Running is a part of me now, and I’m so proud of that. 💙

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend, in the next few weeks, or cheering someone on. And to all the supporters — you’re a huge part of getting us through race day. 🫶🏼

🌱 It’s your garden. You choose what grows.

Comparison can be the killer of your dreams if you let it.

For years, I told myself “I’m not good enough” and “I’m not like her.” But then I realised… why was I comparing my Chapter 1 to someone else’s Chapter 752? You never see all the highs, lows, setbacks, tears, or years of work behind someone else’s journey.

From my first half marathon to my third, I spent so much time comparing myself—to runners on Instagram, to friends I trained with, to people who looked “better” or “faster.”

But we’re not the same person.

We all have different lives, different responsibilities, different bodies, and different journeys. And that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be. 🤍

It took me 2–3 years into running to finally stop comparing and start focusing on my own progress. The moment I did, running became so much more enjoyable.

So here’s your reminder:

🌸 Water your own grass.
🌸 Celebrate your own wins.
🌸 Keep showing up for you.

Because a couple of years ago, you were dreaming of being where you are today.

And I promise you… your 16-year-old self would be so proud of the person you’re becoming. So would the people who love you.

Have big goals. Chase them. But don’t let someone else’s journey make you forget how far you’ve come.

It’s your garden. You choose what grows. 🩷🌍

My favourite running shorts 🏃🏼‍♀️

I’ve been running for over 6 years and I’ve tried a lot…. I mean a LOT of shorts. Some have been long lasting, other great for a short period of time and some I tried once and never wore again.

The top contenders have to be @mileoffrunning
🏃🏼‍♀️ Flowy shorts - go to for race day, light weight and have beautiful colours. And the 360 pocket and inside pants line for safety and comfort
🏃🏼‍♀️ 2-in1 shorts - have pockets on the inside that fit so much, gel lining stop riding and so many more polecats
🏃🏼‍♀️ Cycling shorts - 2 amazing side pockets, great colours, comfy and gel on the shorts to stop movement

Next up @myprotein Tempo Seamless range. They are comfy, soft and no budge during training. The high waist band is perfect fit and great for IBS girlies

@Gymshark 2 in 1 shorts the in seam does rise but never the less still comfy, in and out of running, endless colours and light weight

@sweatybetty shorts. The pockets are amazing deep and keep things in. Light weight and perfect for comfort in and out of running

These are my favourite running shorts I have many more in my collection but these are my favourite contenders.

What’s your favourite running shorts?

Running teaches you more than you think 💭

Second year at @cardiff10k (my favourite 10k) and it was a special one! First time pacing one of my amazing friends and getting sub 1 hour for the second time 🏃🏼‍♀️

A year ago first 10k race in Cardiff (2025) I pushed myself, surprised myself & got my 10k PB 58:31 and this was start of believing I was a runner and could do hard things

Running has got me from 1k to running a 5k to 10k to more than 2 half marathons & do one of my the most amazing things not just pace my friend for a race but have confidence to get a time to be proud of and EVEN MORE, have the most amazing day too

Running isn’t just about the highs or a race day, getting a PB, it’s about the days you ran when you didn’t feel like it, ran when you had bad day and stuck at it! Running teaches you to have confidence, be consistent at long term it pays off, you can deal with hard things and be proud of yourself. Because of running I’ve gained amazing friends for life that are more than my running partners but friendships I’d be lost without, do things in and outside running never thought I could because I believed in myself and gave me way to cope with life

It is also September and suicide prevention month, more than most people know running has saved me and my way of coping with life. I’d say to anyone give running a try or anything have a reason to fill your own cup, be kind to yourself and do something for you 🩷

In 2020, 16 year old me threw on some shoes and did 1k and thought this is too hard. Thanks to park run, run club, family, growing as a person & friends running part of me and I’m proud to say that. So this is my way of saying you don’t necessarily have to run not everyone is able, but would highly recommend running (this can be anything you find hard or what give it go) just start getting out there be consistent and give time you’d be surprised where you would be in a year or even 6 years

What’s your love letter to running?

Episode 6 - Final Ep of Out for summer with SJ

I want to start by saying a massive THANK YOU to everyone for their support whether that be a like or comment or share it means the world 🩷

This week was a fun one and can’t believe it just like that summer is done. I was so lucky to be the winner of one of the prizes of @stronggirlsociety Stronger Summer challenge ! Such a great surprise that made my day

This week I’ve done loads of reading and one thing I do not regret spending time on , happy place by Emily Henry is a book I struggle to put down. Even took myself to Waterstones to purchase all the Emily Henry books to have my own collection. I’ve met up with some friends this week spent Friday evening together.

I’ve had my nails since week 2/3 of the summer so new ones are needed and love blue and brown with spots atm so that may possibly be my final choice. Managed to get more PT coursework done and so pleased I got stuck in to this to get even more done before work next week.

I’ve done slow runs, park run and easy run this week, with a speed session and a lush Sunday run with the girls to end the week. I have loved summer and little too much and sad see it go

I hope you have all had amazing summer and at least got out to enjoy the sun. Just want to say thank you again for all support and here’s to many more series to come as this concludes my first

What’s your favourite memory from summer?

Running is about changing your perspective

Running is a more mental game than you know. Your mind will give in before your body but, if you can harness it, it can be your most powerful tool.

Some of my tips for when running gets hard
🩵 A failed run is better than no run
🩵You are your own worst enemy be nice to yourself like you would a friend
🩵Checking in on your progress can make you realise how well you’re doing
🩵Small progress can come in all forms - compliment from a friend, seeing your numbers
🩵If it was easy everyone would do it
🩵Being consistent is more important than perfection

Running has taken me years to love it and enjoy it and hard work played a big part of it. You build and grow in the hard moments

What’s your best price of advice for hard days?
