Allow us to clear something up for you. It’s RUNHER (like “runner”), not RunHer, RunHER, or Run Her. Because it’s all about her and she’s a runner.

800 years: That’s how long one 2026 study* estimates it could take for women to be equally represented as participants in sports medicine research. 🤯

Right now, less than 10% of sports science and exercise physiology research focuses specifically on active and athletic women. That leaves few evidence-based guidelines built for women’s bodies, and it shows up as:

➡️ higher injury rates
➡️ more athletes leaving their sport
➡️ potential left on the table

But something is shifting. “Five years ago, people didn’t even know a data gap existed,” says Trent Stellingwerff, Ph.D., of @whsp_institute. “There’s a real awakening happening.”

New institutes, university programs, and global alliances are now researching the questions that matter to women who run: bone stress injuries, RED-S, menstrual health, pregnancy, postpartum return to running, and staying active while aging.

In Issue 004, @cyu888 digs into the big bet on women’s sports science, and why closing the gap is more complex than simply funding more research. Get your copy at the link in bio.

Hawi Feysa wins the Chicago Marathon in 2:13:33, improving on last year’s personal best of 2:14:57.

It’s the second consecutive win at Chicago for Feysa, who battled it out with Sharon Lokedi in the last few miles before opening a massive gap in the final mile.

Makenna Myler (@benzmakenz) has now run a sub-5:30 mile at nine months pregnant with every one of her kids:

Baby 1, 2020: 5:25
Baby 2, 2023: 5:17 (the fastest-known mile ever by a woman 9 months pregnant)
Baby 3, 2026: 5:22

Her latest run came at an event supporting @forallmothers—a nonprofit that aims to remove the barriers mothers face in sports—just days before she’s due.

In 1977, race organizers expected 200 women. 2,231 showed up.

The Bonne Bell Mini Marathon—now the Boston 10K for Women—had stairs on the course, lip balm at the finish, and a high schooler named Lynn Jennings (who would go on to become one of the most accomplished women’s long distance runners in U.S. history) taking the win.

197,000+ runners later, seven women from that first start line are still showing up every year.

Read more in Issue 005, available now (link in bio).

The 50th running of the Boston 10K for Women is October 10. Tag the woman you’d run it with. 💛

We’re looking for the next cover of RUNHER! Issue 006 lands in January, and we’d love to feature either:

🥶 A winter close-up of a woman runner. Think: frozen eyelashes, misting breath, cheeks flushed from the cold.
💅 A style-focused close-up that celebrates the details: nails, glitter, jewelry, accessories. Bonus points if it doesn’t obviously read as track.
📅 Deadline: November 6, 2026

Records hate to see Tigst Assefa coming. 👀

She was on world record pace at the Berlin Marathon until her Achilles tore with 2K to go, but still won in a course record of 2:11:04–her second time on the top 10 all-time women’s marathon list.

Assefa had surgery in Munich today and is expected to be out for about 7 months.

Do you think we’ll see someone go sub-2:10 this fall? 👇

Tigst Assefa just won the Berlin Marathon in 2:11:04, the third fastest time in history.

She was on world record pace for 40K, until visibly limping into the finish. She missed the world record by just over a minute, but crossed the line five minutes ahead of the second place finisher.

This is Assefa’s third win in Berlin; she broke her own course record from 2023 and set a personal best by 49 seconds.
