Sharing my running journey in the depths of motherhood💫

About me - I don’t think I’ve done a proper introduction so thought it was about time!

I met my husb in 2015 and we got married in 2018. He is absolutely amazing and so supportive in all I do. Side note, he also runs but doesn’t do social media!

Our children are phenomenal. They share our achievements as we share theirs. Running is also a great calm amongst the chaos that having young children brings!

Our dogs are wonderful too. Peanut is the oldest (4) and Spidey aka Spiderman has just turned 3. They add a bit more chaos but a whole lot of love.

I find it hard to parent indoors. Everyone is happier outside!

Husb and I try to do different activities as date nights. We recently went paddleboarding but didn’t take any pics!

On holiday in Greece I impressed my son on my pool handstand ability. He thinks I’m a bit cool 🥹

Salad as a side, sure. As a main, absolutely not. Pass me the carbs.

I think I’ve always been a little different. I don’t have a huge circle of friends but I do have some solid friendships and some of the best cheerleaders!

I used to gym and do shorter runs with my husband before we had our son. Then had my son (2019) and although I did return to the gym after he came along, my fitness wasn’t to the extent it is now.

Once my littlest baby turned 1 last year, I needed to carve some time out for me. I slowly got back into running and the combination of the endorphins plus being able to track my progress made running quite addictive.

Lol at me thinking running was a ‘free’ sport. Race entry, trainers and gels don’t come cheap but the atmosphere of races and the medals are super fun!

Excited for the next 9 months. I’m trying to balance training whilst being mindful of a previous injury. Thanks @rehabhub because you guys really helped me.

I love running with my husband. Not only is it lovely to have company, but because he’s faster than me, I have to push myself to keep up with him!

Solo runs are great headspace. I run with headphones during solo runs and really try and get into the rhythm of running. Podcasts are great for longer runs - one of my super fit mama friends @khenl3y gave me that advice 🥹.

Post work run, squeezing in a run between the parent juggle!

Note to self - get some running sunnies or wear a cap. Also wear a sports top and not just a t-shirt.

Wanted to do 8k but only managed 7k due to timings. A run is still a run though! by @runlikeamummy

173 sleeps until the Brighton Marathon.

I did a sub 2hr half marathon on Sunday and went straight back to running this morning.

I thought I’d earned a rest day (or two!) but my little one had other ideas. Apparently my two year old personal trainer doesn’t accept rest!

Things that cost absolutely nothing when running a race.

They could add seconds onto your time but hugely impact someone’s day.

Now I’m not saying you need to high 5 every child or thank every single marshal but if you have a teeny bit of spare energy now and then, it’s important to try and remember kindness.

The marshals make the race possible and the cheers from the sidelines are what keep you going! by @runlikeamummy

175 sleeps until Brighton Marathon and today I did my THIRD half marathon since May!

I’m not sure how it happened but I managed to get the exact same chip in both @theamazingnorthamptonrun and @greateasternrun 🤣.

I didn’t get much footage of today as I was soaking the atmosphere in!

It was also spectacular today as in the race there was myself, my Husband, my Dad, my step mum and my three siblings and my sister’s boyfriend. My sister ran and she’s over halfway through her pregnancy. She was the real winner today 🥹. by @runlikeamummy

176 sleeps until Brighton Marathon and tomorrow is the Peterborough half @greateasternrun

Can we normalise not buying new/fancy kit for race day?! My normal running kit is just fine and serves it’s purpose.

Obviously if you need new kit then that’s totally fine but a new kit each race day just adds to landfill and can be a waste of £££!

At the end of the day though, you do you but don’t judge me for my old @amazon cycling shorts, my @primark sports bra that the label has faded on and my @vinted adidas running vest! by @runlikeamummy

179 sleeps until Brighton Marathon and this morning I did a nice 6k solo run before work.

My last solo run was Friday and since then I’ve done a few buggy runs so today felt strange.

Anyone else who does a lot of a buggy running feel at a loose end with their hands when doing a solo run?! 🤣

181 sleeps until Brighton Marathon and buggy running is a big part of my training.

Singing, talking, laughing, tantrums (from both of us!), things being pelted from the buggy, shoes being kicked off, dodging traffic and people and pushing 15+ kg up a hill.

It’s hard work but it’s so rewarding.

I bought our @outnabout_official from a lovely friend who was selling it on.

It was in great condition but thought a couple of upgrades would help make it the buggy that we really need.

These prams are £££ new but definitely hold their value and these pushchairs are robust too.

Would love a new model but unfortunately can’t justify the price at the moment!

A lovely sheepskin liner helps regulate body temperatures. Not advised in super hot weather but deffo helps in the cooler weather and the cushioning on it is just *chef’s kiss*

I think ours was from @bootsuk a couple of years back.

The @outnabout_official grip was peeling off so we ordered a comfy but heavy duty grip from @amazon which does the job perfectly!

This @outnabout_official has very little storage - although the newer models have ample storage which is absolute goals!

We popped a carabiner on the handlebar to aid with nursery/school bags and general life equipment!

No upgrade on the toddler though as she’s amazing just as she is 💖💖 by @runlikeamummy

184 sleeps until Brighton Marathon!

Post work 10k this evening, leaving my husband with the children during witching hour.

It was wonderful to have this headspace after a busy day at work and watching the sun set over the horizon never gets old.

I’ve done a few buggy runs this week so it was a change to be solo.

I definitely wore the wrong shoes though, I thought I’d go non carbon tonight but I honestly felt like I had lead legs! by @runlikeamummy

Can we talk gels?!

Not just for pro athletes!! Gels are for everyone! So many choices of gels out there and it’s all trial and error.

I loveee the @appliednutrition vimto or berry blast flavour. These gels agree with my stomach 💩 and don’t make me feel sick 🤢 or give me a stitch.

Working mummy and running mummy. These seem to be my two personalities at the moment.
