It’s funny when you start to realize you’re a parent. It never hits you right away when your child is born. It’s almost like you are still in disbelief. For me, it’s hit me hard most recently. My son keeps getting sick from being at daycare, and everyone keeps saying it happens. Well, I get it, but no. I’m paying these people lots of money to make sure he is taken care of in their hands. He ended up getting Hand, Foot and Mouth, as the daycare had an outbreak of it when we were on vacation. He got it after being back in their cares for 2 days. This to me is unacceptable and they should be held accountable for neglect and not taking the cautions to ensure not only him, but other kids are safe. Well, the day after he recovered from it, I ended up getting it. I have had it for 6 days, and it definitely has not been fun. I basically, have to stay quarantined the whole time. The 2 things that bother me is that I can’t help take care of my son, or even pick him up if he’s upset or wanting to just play. This is because I’m trying to not spread it or pass it back on to him as well. Not being able to do these things, has definitely made me feel like a dad, as all I want to do is pick him up and let him know it’s going to be ok.#fatherhood #fatherandson #kids #handfootandmouth #holddaycaresaccountable by @runnershyde

Flashback Friday to mine and @courtneygfoutz travels to Suffolk, VA a couple years ago for her first major book show. She sold out of all her books during that show, and got to speak on a panel with a few other major authors. We even met Mr. Peanut of @mrpeanutofficial Today, she is making her mark at many other shows having sold out at each one! Tomorrow, she will be traveling to another town to do an autograph signing at the very first book store that welcomed her with open arms. I couldn’t be more happier to see her follow her dreams that she works so hard to achieve. Held on to this announcement for a while, but I’ll be running the sold out @philly_marathon this year for my 25th marathon!I held off on registering for a little longer than what I wanted. Then when I went to register, it had sold out, literally, that day. I ended up joining the waitlist, and a few days later, I got an email saying I was IN! They ended up opening the race to more registrants. I had wanted to run this marathon specifically this year, because well…America’s 250th, back where it all started, just made sense.Glad to be running this marathon as my 25th, and 18th state.#americas250th #philadelphia #phillymarathon #runphilly #letfreedomring by @runnershyde

As we grow up we learn, “The only thing that never changes is that everything changes.”During the last 6 years being in Raleigh, I have been able to meet a good group of friends through some run clubs around town. This year we have seen life take us in new directions, and our friend’s group change. Tonight, we get to get together to celebrate many of those, as we celebrate early myself turning 40, another friend celebrates his 3rd kid coming and we say goodbye to another that is moving away to start a new path with his family.My wife and I thought about life changes the other day. We realize how when we get older it’s hard to make friends or even want to because of life. It’s also hard to get together with current friends or even stay in touch. I know we do our best, but man it’s hard to constantly keep up. I plan to do better, as I tell myself ever year. I always told myself before I had a kid I’d do the best I could to be there for every event in their life. I was super bummed about not being there for my son’s 1st event at his daycare, as it was Doughnuts for Dad Day for Father’s Day.I unfortunately, was not able to make it due to traveling for one of my marathons. I was really looking forward to it as well, I just didn’t realize it was the same day. When I flew back on Father’s Day for our family vacation, I made sure we stopped for him at a much better doughnut shop. In fact, I made sure we stopped at not just 1, but 2 of our favorite places to make it up to him. When I signed up for the @grandmasmarathon this year, it just so happened that my favorite band, @takingbacksunday was going to be on tour with another favorite of mine, @bayside in Minneapolis the night of the race. It couldn’t have been a more perfect way to celebrate crossing the line of my 24th marathon.It was also great to meet up with my friend, @funnyserver_meme who moved back to this area a couple of years ago, and his favorite band just so happened to be TBS as well. We always said if TBS was going to be in town we would have to go, so of course we did!I have seen TBS so many times, and with different band members over the years. I would like to say it was great to see @thecolorfred back in the band singing vocals after all these years. Adding him with @thejohnnolan and @adamdamnlazzara created something special, and really hope they all sit down and write an album combining all their vocals. I did miss seeing @eddiesundaytbs and @markoconnelltbs up there on stage, but know they are delivering something “Special” to us in 21 days.Great time seeing my friend Cory, and a thank you to his other friend, Brad, for getting us all some great seats. 50th Grandma’s MarathonWhat can I say…I have been waiting to run this race for a while now. It’s been on my list since I began my running career. When I first went to sign up they had already sold out of bibs since it was a major anniversary for the race. I decided I would go the charity route and raise money for a much more worthy cause, the @ruffstartrescuemn of Minnesota. Thank you to all those who did donate to this cause, and help with the needed amount to secure my spot in the race. Again, your money did go directly to this organization, and if you or anyone else would like to donate more, please contact them directly!My experience started on Friday, the day before the race, getting up at 3:30 AM to a delayed flight. Then once getting into Minneapolis, grabbed some @cariboucoffee (if you know you know) and drove 2 and a half hours to Duluth for packet pickup and some exploring. After, I drove back to Minneapolis through a hail storm so I could try and get to bed by 8. My day was delayed, so I was already off to a late start.Race Day…I got up at 2 AM to drive back to Duluth to be there in time by 5 AM to bus up to the start. It was amazing start weather at a low of 50 degrees. It later climbed to about mid 60’s by the end of the race. The only real issue I had during the race was I had to stop to take a restroom break, which ate at my overall finish time and the pace I had going. I quickly regained it though to finish, but had to slow it up the last few miles. This was my 2nd fastest marathon, and it easily could have been a PR. I did hold back due to being tired, and really just going into it wanting to finish. About 30 minutes after the race, I started to crash hard so I took an hour nap in my car before heading back to my hotel in Minneapolis.Overall, it was a great trip up to MN. The race was great, ran into my friend @dp_on_the_go at both start and finish, got to cross off another marathon and state making it my 17th/50 states and 24th marathon to date and of course had one hell of an after party with one of my old co-workers and friend @funnyserver_meme at the @takingbacksunday concert.#grandmasmarathon #ruffstartrescuemn #runmn #tbs by @runnershyde

Columbus 10K presented by Barbasol (Virtual) 2026I haven’t been able to go to Columbus to run in the @columbus10k in person yet, but I have been able to virtually for the last 7 years. Next year, I do plan on going up for the 50th Anniversary.My unofficial course that I ran ended up being a good one for it. It was humid and I was tired, but got it in before the heat of the day really hit. I was also hoping to go a bit faster, but running on 5 hours of sleep and a decent 5 mile run the previous night, caused the legs to drag a little.Here is to next year!June 12, 2026#columbus10k #columbus #ohio #runcbus #runnerslife by @runnershyde

Happy 1st Birthday to my little buddy!It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year! It’s been a joy to watch you grow and learn so much in such a short time. You already have your mom and I chasing after you, and unable to turn our backs. This past Saturday I ran, JJ’s Journey for a Cause 5 Miler, in support of raising awareness for SIDS. This is put on by one of my running friends who unexpectedly lost his son at 5 months of age. This race is to honor JJ every year, and all proceeds go to First Candle, an organization that works to help bereaved families and hoping to bring an end to SIDS.This is one of my favorite races I have started to run every year, especially, now that I have a son as well.
