Stop waiting for someone to say yes.
Say yes to yourself.
The trip. The hike. The flight. The moment.

Go anyway. ๐Ÿ’ซ

This is my story. I held myself back for so long. Three years ago I decided to go anyway, to run towards adventure... and that's just what I've done - 3 national parks, 2 countries, a few solo road trips. I'm only just starting, there's so much to see & to do. I'm not waiting anymore.

The WHY behind Running2Adventure - I used to think adventure required a partner. Solo adventure seemed too scary, too much of a risk. But something in me changed. I decided adventure is worth the risk. I wish I would have started sooner.

I discovered I can spend an entire week on a boat without getting seasick. (Who knew?!) ๐Ÿ˜‚

I discovered that an Aperol Spritz is actually pretty tasty. ๐Ÿน

And I was reminded that some of the best experiences happen when you ask the waiter for a recommendation, trust their knowledge, and let the local food introduce you to a little more of the culture.

New places are wonderful, but sometimes the real adventure is seeing things differently, trying something unfamiliar, and being open to what happens next.

๐Ÿค” I'm curious: What have YOU discovered or seen differently on an adventure?

It doesn't have to be life-changing. Sometimes the smallest discoveries make the best stories.

Tell me yours in the comments. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’™ by @running2adventure

One of my more cherished views is that the world is vast, that everyone is a little different & a little the same & that we should embrace all of it with an open heart & an open mind. Travel has challenged one part of that view - the world isn't that big. ๐Ÿฉต by @running2adventure

My second @escapada.co adventure is booked, has been actually, basically since I got home from the first one (yes, it was that good) ... but I decided to start a countdown.

10 days, 9 trails including (starring) the #uk3peaks + other fun stuff.

Yes, 32 weeks seems like a long time for a countdown, especially one being posted publicly. I have a "why".

โ›ฐ๏ธ Fast packing is new to me. It's going to require some new gear & I want to space out my purchases, but there are some items that I'll need sooner rather than later. (Suggestions welcomed!)

๐Ÿ’ช Most importantly, I'm using this as a means of sharing my journey & keeping myself on track. I'm 51 & the changes that perimenopause has "gifted" me with are mostly unappreciated & unwelcome. Membership in the #wedontcare club is the one exception. (iykyk)

The physical prep...

๐Ÿ’ช I'm currently doing the @drvondawright Unbreakable protocol - lift heavy 3x/week, eat more protein. I was pleasantly surprised with how my back is looking when I tried to get a better view of this top.

๐Ÿ’จ Post December triathlon I'm planning to keep going. Swimming is great for cardio. Cycling is great for my legs. Running is what I'm planning to do on the smaller trails.

๐Ÿฅพ The hiking focus comes into play in January. The one challenge is our impending #superelninฬƒo ... #leavenotrace and muddy California trails don't mix.

๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ I've got to stay flexible & mobile, so yoga, pilates & mobility training are a key part of the plan.

The pack...

I've been carrying an @ospreypacks (Dyno 1.5) for years, but it's too small for the Peaks. Do I stick with Osprey & get the Tempst Pro 20? Or do I try something new?

The @runjanji Revy has been all over my feed lately, so it has captured my interest.

Suggestions are welcomed. Experienced fast packers, what do you carry?

The shoes...

I've been wearing both @brooksrunning Cascadia and @salomonrunning X-Ultra for a long time. I'm digging what looks like an integrated gaiter on the Cascadia Elite. Salomon hits as a tried & true trail runner & has a lot of color options.

... and then there's all those brands that I don't have experience with...

When you travel, are you carry-on only or do you check a bag?

Recently, I've done two trips that had us moving from place to place - and two trips where we stayed put & could unpack. I've checked bags & I've done carry-on only. What I've learned is, especially when you're on the move, smaller is better... but then there is always the question of how to get that special souvenir (or stash of chocolates) home? by @running2adventure

๐Ÿฉต YOU DON'T HAVE TO WAIT. ๐Ÿฉต

You can start where you are.
Use what you have.
Take the trip. Run the trail. See the place you've been dreaming about.

Go alone if you have to (I have).
Go before you've figured everything out.
Because life is happening now.

Adventure isn't reserved for someone younger, fitter, braver, or luckier than you.

Welcome to Running2Adventure.
A little running. A lot of exploring.
Travel inspiration, trails, and reminders that sometimes the best adventures begin when you stop waiting.

๐Ÿฉต Say yesโ€”to yourself, the trip, the moment.๐Ÿฉต

Tell me: What's one adventure you've been waiting to say yes to? ๐Ÿ‘‡

I haven't trained for triathlon since 2018.

This past weekend I drove 2ish hours (and spent the night) in Apple Valley for their annual reverse triathlon โ€” and finished 4th in my age group. ๐Ÿคฏ

A few days later and I'm still riding that high... and honestly, I'm considering bringing triathlon training back into my life. Nothing crazy โ€” sprint or Olympic distance only. Because in my heart of hearts, no matter how slow I may be, I'm a trail runner. Running on the road is not my jam. (Off-road triathlon? Maybe โ€” though I don't actually know how to ride a mountain bike. Yet.)

Sometimes adventures are local(ish). Sometimes they surprise you.

Have you ever surprised yourself like this? Tell me ๐Ÿ‘‡

I love watching the skies. Sunsets are great & I have plenty of pictures of those. But I'm also that girl who says, "did you see the moon tonight?!" ๐ŸŒ™

Samsung has some sort of magic installed for high zoom photos of the night sky, but the moon especially. Holding the phone steady is tricky and the subsequent result always has me wondering how.

The official start of fall always finds me yearning for the autumn vibes I knew as a child in Vermont - cooler days, leaves changing colors from a sea of green to a kaleidoscope of vibrant reds yellows, and oranges... ๐Ÿ

The nights grow longer. The moon peaks through tree branches giving perfect, spooky Halloween vibes... ๐ŸŽƒ

Fall hits different in Southern California. Sure, the days get shorter but that only seems to cause issues with traffic. No matter how much as I want it to be boot & sweater weather, it's not.

The older I get the more I realize, you can take the girl out of Vermont, but you can't take the Vermont out of the girl (not this one anyway). It's probably a big reason why when I travel I take lots of photos of nature & very few photos of cities. by @running2adventure

Autumn is, without a doubt, my favorite season. I love the show of colors in the trees, the crunch of the fallen leaves, the crispness of the air. Boots & sweaters make me happy.
