I truly did start hating my thighs at 8 years old. And at 14 I was in the depths of an eating disorder that I wouldn’t begin to accept the help I needed to address it for another 8 years.
•
I so deeply wish I could go back and tell my teenaged self that it wasn’t worth the time to hate my body. It wasn’t worth the time to delve so deeply into a disorder that tried to take everything from me. I wish I could show younger me the version of myself that I am now, finally free. Happy. Whole.

Once I was able to heal my relationship with myself and my body (which was hard, hard work), I was able to heal my relationship with running. Now, a sport that I used to punish myself with is a sport that I truly enjoy and look forward to. A sport that used to play a role in my eating disorder plays a role into my recovered life.

20 years after I first began to hate my body, I can finally accept my body exactly as it is, right now. I don’t always love it, but I certainly don’t hate it anymore. Because hating it isn’t worth my time. by @runningwithtay

Took some time to enjoy the little things during my run today - a moment of silence enjoying the cute wildflowers and the sunshine.

As a busy mom, I find myself often neglecting taking time to just BE. Even when I have “down time” I try to fill it up with something - cleaning, laundry (which is somehow never ending??), scrolling mindlessly on my phone, anything but silence. It’s something I’m continually trying to improve in because taking time for mindfulness always boosts my mood and brings me peace, but slowing down enough to get there is hard for me. Things like prayer journaling, sitting in the quiet on my porch, and taking phone-free and silent runs are all things I’m working on incorporating into my routine. Hopefully I’ll be in my ✨mindful girl era✨ by the end of this summer😂

A day to celebrate my favorite sport✨

Friendly reminder that you’re a runner, even if:
🏃🏽‍♀️You’re not the fastest
🏃🏽‍♀️You don’t run every day
🏃🏽‍♀️You don’t run races
🏃🏽‍♀️You walk during your runs
•
Running is for everyone. Are you running today?

Winding, hilly back roads are quickly becoming a route favorite🏃🏽‍♀️

Before moving here 6mo ago, I NEVER ran hills. I lived in a flat, flat part of the Midwest and the only elevation I ever experienced were the stairs to the reservoir I’d run around (rarely). As much as they kick my butt, I can tell they’re a great asset to my running.

🏃🏽‍♀️hill repeats can help you build speed, prepare for a hilly race, and simply up your overall strength
🏃🏽‍♀️incorporating hills into easy runs can give you mental strength to conquer hills in any race you come across
🏃🏽‍♀️overall, hills can help to prevent injury as you up your overall fitness (if you start slow and build up! Don’t just dive in, head first!)
🏃🏽‍♀️In addition to hills, adding some lower body strength training to my weeks has helped me feel better on runs

So this is me telling you to go run up a hill😉 by @runningwithtay

2020➡️2023

The girl on the left was, obviously, in better shape. However, the girl on the left also:
•was not working and
•was stuck in quarantine with, quite literally, nothing else to do except run and
•was not a parent

Then came a move to a new place, an ectopic pregnancy, an urgent tube removal, another move, a pregnancy, an emergency c-section, and a year of being a full-time working and breastfeeding mom.
And now we’re here.
Am I where I was? No.
Is that completely okay? YES.
I’ve taken the time the last 3 years to rest, to heal, and to recover. I’ve found my genuine love of running again, even if I’m not where I used to be. And now I have new goals, goals that are realistic for me, my life, and my family.

Taking walks with my toddler is my favorite way to get some gentle movement on running rest days in while simultaneously enjoying the sunshine. Being outside does WONDERS for my mental health, especially on sunny days. Our town has a cute little walking path that runs alongside a river and taking walks here are definitely a highlight of our day (or, maybe it’s the many, many stops taken to throw rocks into the water that are the highlight).

Raising my daughter to love the outdoors and to see that her mom prioritizes self-care (in this case, through joyful movement) are big intentions for me. I believe that modeling a lifestyle of prioritizing self-care and self-love will impact her beyond any words I can share with her as she grows up.

What are your favorite ways (beyond running) to spend time outside?

I’m resurrecting this account🎉

My name is Taylor and I’m a 28yo mom from the east coast (originally Midwest) and I’m getting back into running one day at a time!
Before having my daughter, my fitness was at an all time high - free time during quarantine definitely helped! In summer 2020, I unfortunately experienced an ectopic pregnancy that resulted in an urgent surgery to remove one of my tubes. About 3 months after surgery, we got pregnant with our daughter! Feeling uneasy from the ectopic, I ditched running during my pregnancy in fear of it causing complications. I continued to stay away from running for about 18mo postpartum (I wanted ample healing time because I had my daughter via emergency C-section).
But now, almost 2y postpartum, I’m finding my stride again and having a lot of fun along the way. Follow along for some realistic, motherhood running content 🥰 by @runningwithtay
