Even on windy days in Calgary it’s nice to get the club out for a lap around the reservoir! Last long run of the taper before the @calgarymarathon #runwithrelli #calgaryrunclub #calgaryrunners by @runwithrelli

Official Race photos dropped and all of a sudden I’m craving another training block 👀 the feeling of being completely surrounded by other goal-driven individuals grinding it out up and down a mountain is astounding. Yet in this moment I also felt completely in my own world. Ready 🔒

Shoutout to the guy in the green sweater beside me and the woman running with him! I was in second place from the second hill on and they hunted me down the last 2.5k. They pushed me to a find a new gear on the hills to try and lose them. Ultimately they’d catch me on the steep downhill of the last km and though I was saved monetarily by single file trail, they got me when it opened up again.

🔒🔒🔒

The best part of the day was getting to celebrate with you guys crossing the finish line 🥳 and then second best might have to be the Canmore bagel company after 🤤 New PB on getting people to race with me : 4 🤠

Hey look it’s the guy who cooked me on the second hill, haven’t seen him since 🏎️💨 loved this race and can’t wait to come back for redemption @rnestendurance taken in Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park by @runwithrelli

Huge shoutout to Ben on completing his first official Half Marathon race!

He’s covered the distance plenty of times in training, but there’s something different about pinning on a bib, standing on the start line, and earning a medal at the finish!

To make it even better, he managed to stay under 2 hours despite having to stop and wait for a train that cut through the course! A lot of runners would’ve let that derail their race. Ben got moving again, stayed composed, and still hit his goal!

Sub 2. First medal race. One heck of a day!

Proud to have you as a part of our club! 👊🏽🏃🏽 taken in The Banff Half Marathon and 10K by @runwithrelli

💙💚 It’s not about the running. It’s about what you learn about yourself along the way! This has been by far the hardest, but most rewarding experience I’ve ever taken on! I’m so grateful to have a run club of friends to get me out the door(and trick me into running more km’s than I said we would), such a supportive fiancé with me every step of the way , and a brother to run into the storm with! Vibes were at an all time high in every training run with @boko4_ and then we got down to business on race Sunday! Despite how painful that last 5k was we somehow managed to float across the finish line 😂I can’t wait for our redemption run next year 🏎️💨 by @runwithrelli

Current Status Update : it’s been a snowy winter in Calgary! I’ve gotten out to run every chance I can with the chinooks but otherwise have been doing cardio on the bike and weights. A close friend of mine ran their first marathon in 2025, he told me in retrospect he wishes he’d spent more time doing strength training and less cardio which is comforting in my current routine! Looking forward in 2026, I’m training for my first but hopefully not last marathon, the Calgary Marathon and potentially more races in the summer but May is the current focus. I’m struggling to find the time to fit training runs in (I was supposed to run 20k this weekend and just…didn’t). The same friend I mentioned earlier, I joked with that I’d rather suffer for 4 hours on the day of than for 120 hours of training and that might still be true. There’s days I’m excitedly begging my friends to get out and come run 15k and days I’m fighting to drag myself to get to the gym for a workout. All this to say running a marathon properly is a journey, a commitment, and a war. I guess if it was easy everyone would do it! Running solo is great, but running with someone who pushes you? Game changer. 💨 Having a training partner keeps you accountable, motivated, and makes every mile more enjoyable. Huge shoutout to my cousin for grinding through this half marathon with me—wouldn’t have been the same without you! There was many times during our race that I felt like I needed to walk but I recognized that I was experiencing the mental challenge of the race and not the physical. I also felt like if I could keep it to myself and just stick to your pace that I could drag myself to the end! Now we have a time to beat in May 😈 Anyone up to plan a group run? Running in Winter? Read This First! ❄️🏃‍♂️

Cold weather doesn’t mean you have to stop running—you just need the right approach! Here’s how to stay warm, safe, and strong in winter conditions:

🧥 Dress Smart – Layer up with a moisture-wicking base, an insulating middle layer, and a wind-resistant outer layer. Gloves, thermal socks, and a hat are a must!

🔥 Warm Up Indoors – Cold muscles are more prone to injury. Get your body moving with some dynamic stretches or light jogging before stepping outside.

❄️ Adjust Your Running Style – Shorten your stride for better traction and breathe through your nose to warm the air before it hits your lungs.

🌙 Stay Safe & Visible – Wear reflective gear or a headlamp if you’re running in the dark, and stick to cleared paths to avoid black ice.

🥶 Change ASAP After Your Run – Wet clothes = fast heat loss. Swap into warm, dry clothes and do your cool-down inside.

Winter running is all about preparation—get it right, and you’ll stay strong all season! Who else is running through the cold? Drop a ❄️ in the comments! #RunLikeRelli #WinterRunning #StayWarmRunStrong by @runwithrelli

Why You Should NEVER Skip Your Warm-Up 🚀🔥

We’ve all been there—lacing up our shoes, eager to start running, and skipping the warm-up to “save time.” But here’s the truth: warming up properly can make or break your run.

Here’s why it matters:

🔥 Prepares Your Muscles – A good warm-up increases blood flow to your muscles, making them more flexible and less prone to injury.

⚡ Boosts Performance – Warming up activates your body, helping you run more efficiently and avoid that sluggish first mile.

🦵 Reduces Injury Risk – Cold, tight muscles are more likely to get strained. A warm-up helps loosen things up so you stay injury-free.

💨 Improves Breathing & Heart Rate – Easing into your run allows your lungs and heart to adjust gradually, making the run feel smoother.

So, what should a warm-up look like? Try 5-10 minutes of dynamic stretching + easy jogging before you start your run. Some great warm-up moves:

✅ Leg Swings – Loosens up your hips.
✅ High Knees – Fires up your quads and core.
✅ Butt Kicks – Activates your hamstrings.
✅ Arm Circles – Warms up your shoulders for better posture.
✅ Easy Jogging – Gradually raises your heart rate.

Next time you’re about to run, take those extra few minutes to warm up—your body will thank you! Do you usually warm up before a run, or are you guilty of skipping it? Let me know in the comments! 👇 #RunLikeRelli #RunningTips #WarmUpRight by @runwithrelli
