Kinda chic to turn your hobby into your profession and then 10 years later start a whole new company (@mostlycustom.in) with your husband while still doing what you love the most; making everyday things look pretty with good lighting and great styling. by @ruqkish

"Photography has always been my way to connect with the world, and I'm still amazed at where it's taken me. I'm Ruqaiya, a self-taught photographer from Kolkata, and my journey began with a simple love for capturing life's moments. What started as a quiet hobby blossomed into a full-time career, filled with challenges and transformative moments.

I vividly remember the first time I picked up a DSLR, saving up for months despite others doubting my investment. My early days were filled with YouTube tutorials, trial and error, and a deep commitment to learning. Each click of the shutter was a small victory, and every project was a chance to experiment and grow. From capturing books for my blog to landing my first product photography gig, my career began to take shape.

For me, the camera is a tool for storytelling. My journey with gear has been a constant evolution, upgrading as my needs grew. It's not just about having the best equipment; it's about knowing how to use it to capture the emotion and narrative I want to convey. I've learned to be patient with my camera, understanding its nuances, and experimenting with different lenses and lighting setups.

When starting a shoot, I think about how the product or subject feels, what it represents, and the narrative it carries. I scout locations, experiment with lighting, and carefully choose props and styling to complement the subject. It's a meticulous process, but the end result is rewarding.

After moving to Mumbai, I started over from scratch, but it fueled my passion. I built a new studio, connected with new clients, and dove into projects with the same drive. The city dynamics pushed me to refine my style, adapt to trends, and keep pushing creative boundaries.

Photography is about capturing emotions and stories that resonate with people. It's about noticing the little things – the way light hits a subject, textures that tell a story, or subtle moments that might otherwise be overlooked. Every photo I create is a new chapter in the ongoing story I'm telling through my lens."

Welcome to a day in my life as a full time photographer.

The best part about this job is that everyday is a completely new day, with totally different schedules. Today however was one of those light days, where I spent a lot of time editing and shooting at my own pace.

A huge shout out to @acr_chunawala53 for this really smart work wear. Adding another shade to my 50 shades of blue ridas 🤭

Ps. There's another POV of the same day posted on @ebrahimbastawala. Go check it out. taken in Bandra West by @ruqkish
