"Kids like this just die. Other places in the world, they just die."The average cost of a NICU stay in the United States is approximately between $3,000 and $5,000 per day. That figure balloons exponentially when factoring in the costs of specialists, treatments, and complex surgeries. No new parent, especially one caring for a critically ill child, should be forced to choose between life saving care and financial ruin. One grandfather we interviewed through our Storyteller Project shared how Medicaid provided the support his family needed to provide his newborn grandson the care he required to survive.
