⛽️ C’è qualcosa che mi colpisce riguardo a questa foto.

Se non ci fosse la pompa di benzina, molti penserebbero che sia stata scattata venti o trent’anni fa. La Giallona, la mia BMW R80 G/S, un piccolo distributore ai margini del deserto di Bardenas Reales e quella luce che soltanto una pellicola 35 mm riesce a restituire in questo modo.

Invece questa foto ha appena un anno.

Facevamo rifornimento durante un viaggio in Spagna e quei prezzi del carburante, che allora sembravano normalissimi, oggi raccontano già un’altra epoca. È curioso quanto poco tempo serva perché un’immagine smetta di parlare del presente e inizi a parlare di storia.

Questa fotografia fa parte di Road and Roll, il progetto con cui uniamo viaggi in moto e fotografia analogica, ed è pubblicata nel primo numero di Rust and Glory.

⛽️ There’s something that always catches my attention when I look at this photograph.

Without the fuel pump, most people would probably guess it was taken twenty or thirty years ago. The Giallona, my BMW R80 G/S, a small gas station on the edge of Spain’s Bardenas Reales desert, and the kind of light only 35 mm film seems able to preserve.

Yet this photograph is only one year old.

We stopped here to refuel during a road trip across Spain, and those fuel prices—which felt completely ordinary at the time—already belong to another era. It’s surprising how little time it takes for a photograph to stop describing the present and quietly become a memory.

This image is part of Road and Roll, our project combining motorcycle travel and analog photography, and it appears in the first issue of Rust and Glory.

Rust and Glory trova sempre il posto che si merita.

Può rimanere per qualche giorno sul tavolo del soggiorno, finire nello studio di un architetto, accanto ai libri consumati di un fotografo, sul banco di un’officina o sullo scaffale di un negozio.

Nelle ultime settimane ci ci avete inviato fotografie da tutta Italia. Ogni copia di Rust and Glory è arrivata in un luogo diverso, ma tutte sembrano appartenere allo stesso paesaggio umano: persone che continuano a credere negli oggetti fatti per durare, nelle storie raccontate con lentezza e in un’estetica che non ha bisogno di inseguire il tempo per restare contemporanea.

Vedere il nostro primo numero entrare nelle vostre case, nei vostri laboratori, nei vostri studi è la soddisfazione più grande che potessimo immaginare: il magazine non è stato solo acquistato ma è stato ACCOLTO.

Avere accesso ai paddock e alle verifiche tecniche della Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti significa ammirare le auto nella loro più autentica bellezza: cofani aperti, meccanici al lavoro, ultimi controlli e quell’atmosfera sospesa che esiste solo poche ore prima di mettersi in strada.

La Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti è una delle più importanti manifestazioni italiane dedicate alle auto storiche. Nata nel 1947 come gara di velocità sulle strade alpine, oggi è una gara di regolarità che attraversa alcuni dei passi più spettacolari delle Dolomiti.

Per noi è stato un privilegio poter raccontare quello che il pubblico normalmente non vede.

La Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti dura fino a domenica e si svolge a Cortina. Fate un salto, se potete.

Having access to the Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti paddocks means seeing these cars without the spectacle: bonnets open, mechanics at work, scrutineering, last-minute checks, and that unique atmosphere that only exists in the hours before the road calls.

The Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti is one of Italy’s most prestigious historic motoring events. Born in 1947 as a high-speed race through the Alpine roads, it is now a regularity rally across some of the most spectacular Dolomite passes.

For us, it was a privilege to document what most spectators never get to see.

Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti takes place in Cortina d'Ampezzo and lasts until Sunday.

Cinque settimane fa ero all’ErzbergRodeo e mi resta il ricordo di uno degli eventi più incredibili a cui abbia mai assistito.

Per qualche giorno ho camminato in una vecchia miniera di ferro e, da vicino, tutto assume un’altra dimensione. Le salite sono più ripide, le moto sembrano mezzi ancora più improbabili per lo scopo e il livello di impegno richiesto è disumano.

Ho scattato centinaia di fotografie, ma soprattutto mi porto a casa l’atmosfera di quel luogo e la magia della follia umana.

Sono passate cinque settimane ma mi pare ancora di sentire il rumore dei due tempi e la polvere nell’aria.

Five weeks ago I was at the ErzbergRodeo, and it remains one of the most extraordinary events I’ve ever witnessed.

For a few days I walked through an old iron mine, and seeing it up close changes everything. The climbs are steeper than they look, the motorcycles seem even more unlikely tools for the job, and the level of commitment required is simply beyond belief.

I came home with hundreds of photographs, but above all I brought back the atmosphere of that place and the strange beauty of human madness.

Five weeks have passed, yet I can still hear the sound of two-stroke engines and feel the dust hanging in the air.

La fotografia di moto più bella non parla di moto. Parla delle persone che scelgono la moto come stile di vita.

Di cicatrici.
Di vecchi Bell consumati.
Di numeri dipinti in garage.
Della polvere tra i denti.
Di facce che ricordi, anche quando non ricordi più che moto guidavano.

È il motivo per cui apprezziamo così tanto il lavoro di @mike.olaizola87

La Milano-Taranto è una delle corse su strada più antiche e leggendarie d’Italia. Nata nel 1937, collega Milano a Taranto in oltre 1.400 km di strade, passi e città.

Quest’anno la carovana ha fatto tappa a Breganze per una visita al Museo Laverda.
