Have a wonderful weekend, all. Hope you get to do something that restores your soul. Last weekend I went to the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve and snapped these photos.

See you here again on Monday.

ChatGPT offered to make a caricature of me featuring all of the projects I've been working on. Just for fun. Why not. It sure captured a lot from this year. by @rusty.frank

THROWBACK THURSDAY 1999
Hollywood Jitterbugs in "The Dancing Extravaganza," Orpheum Theatre

This remains an outstanding memory of my dance life. ❤️ We were at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles on stage in front of a sell-out audience of 2,000! This was one of the GREAT Maxwell DeMille shows prior to the movie in the Last Remaining Seats Series. Here we are, "The Hollywood Jitterbugs," many of the top Lindy Hop dancers of 1999 in Los Angeles: L-R Hilary Alexander, Corrina Acosta, Minn Vo, yours truly, Peter Flahiff, Sylvia Skylar, and Erik Robison. This was our "Shout And Feel It" number.

See the performance here:

(As the original was very blurry and low res, I upscaled it with AI.)
And you can see the entire show here:

Throwback Thursday 1998
Herräng Dance Camp, Sweden

Everything about this picture brings me such absolute joy!

First of all, the cast of legendary dancers:
Top row, L-R: Fayard Nicholas (Nicholas Brothers), Chazz Young, Frankie Manning, and Miriam Nelson! Does it get more stellar than that?! (And then there's me and my dance partner, Peter Flahiff, beaming with the wonder of it all.❤️)

Second, Miriam sitting on Frankie's lap like they are a couple of teenagers! This, alone, puts such a smile on my face.

Third, all of us doing our best "Nicholas Brothers hands." Even Fayard!

It's always hard to describe to young people today how extraordinary the Tap Dance and Lindy Hop world was like in the 1990s. I feel certain this photo gives a glimpse!

Not only were these legends always the life of any party, they always welcomed young dancers into that party with all of their hearts!

I was truly lucky to know them. ❤️🎉 taken in Herräng Dance Camp by @rusty.frank

Had a lovely weekend, starting with lighting the Shabbat candles Friday night, then El Segundo Car Show and swing dancing with Lindy by the Sea students to the Fabulous on Saturday, then Sunday with Janet Klein to the Old Town Music Hall for one of my favorite Fred Astaire movies, Top Hat, with a great introduction by Karie Bible. And then today continuing on, a fun outing with June Berk in the fashion district downtown and dinner after at the super delicious restaurant Daichan in Studio City. by @rusty.frank

“Hollywood’s Happy Feet” presentation at Utah Tap Fest. A big THANK YOU to @rusty.frank for sharing all of this amazing history with us, teaching us about how they used to film tap dance, and inspiring us to keep studying. We all learned so much!

He loved to tap!! When the late, great Bill Hayes started seriously tap dancing, he created a special number showing off all the classic steps. His dancer pal, Tad Tadlock, choreographed it and Billy wrote lyrics and performed it as a show stopping solo. Billy taught “I Love to Tap” to Rusty Frank. A talented dancer friend. She has been teaching it to the WORLD via classes and videos.

I treasure this legacy for Billy and the tireless, delightful lady who makes it possible.

Have a look at the gals of The Rhythm Nation Tap Company at the Utah Tap Festival tapping their hearts out to Billy’s number in 2026. @utahtap @rhythm_nation_tapcompany by @rusty.frank

Throwback Thursday, 1989

As I head off to the Utah Tap Festival tomorrow, I packed a stack of my old publicity photo for the students.

Thank you, Laurie Gordon, for taking this wonderful photo which became my author's photo of my book, "TAP!, The Greatest Tap Dance Stars And Their Stories, 1900 to 1955."

And thank you, Wendi Isaacson, for bestowing this special honor on me!*
