da war ein baum
er machte mein fenster
zu einem bild aus grün
bewegte mich wenn es stürmte
er liess seine zweige
an meine scheibe kratzen

there was a tree
it turned my window
into a picture of green
it moved me when storms raged
it let its branches scratch
against my window pane

in summer it sent me yellow fruit
in winter it drew a curtain of branches
suddenly it vanished
from the window I leaned toward
the short trunk with the little twigs
it’ll grow back people said

there is a tree
it turns my window
into a picture of green
it paints my day for me
we dance and smile
and I fear for it taken in Poschiavo, Switzerland by @ruth4less

hinterhof

gut gibt es ein fenster
ich schaue hinaus auf flächen in weiss
die ich mit bildern fülle
inseln und sand und häusermeere und
strassenschluchten und bergmassive
und dörfer wie spielzeug in tälern und
menschen auf wegen und in häusern
gesichter voller lachen und schmerz
blicke zum himmel und
dein gesenkter kopf

die wände
nun wieder weiss
haben alles gespeichert

backyard

it’s good that there’s a window
I look out onto expanses of white
which I fill with images
islands and sand and seas of houses and
urban canyons and mountain ranges
and villages like toys in valleys and
people on paths and in houses
faces full of laughter and pain
glances towards the sky and
your bowed head

the walls
white once more
have stored it all
for later

ich fange dein gedicht auf
wie einen ball
drehe und wende es
in meinen händen
staune über seine farben

du gewährst mir
wohnrecht
für immer

ist dies der raum den ich suche
birgt er ein zimmer
das meinen atem hält
.

I catch your poem
like a ball
turning it this way and that
in my hands, marveling at its color

you grant me
the right to live here
forever

is this the space I’m looking for
does it contain a room
that holds my breath

wohnst du im licht
hinter den blätterschatten

tanzt du im wind und
findest immer wieder ein versteck

siehst du uns träumend leben
und allein bestehen

in diesem frühling
.
.
.
.
do you dwell in the light
behind the shadows of the leaves

do you dance in the wind
and always find a hiding place

do you watch us living
and dreaming and enduring alone

this spring
