Sunset energy in Lisbon w my sister and second sonshine by @ruthallan
@hickoryssmokehouse in Poynton has just had a refresh - but fans will be reassured to know that the food remains INSANE and loved by literally everyone - groups of lads, dads, couples, families - you name it. The kids absolutely love it - and the desserts including an On-table campfire smores edition are wild. If you’ve not been there a CINEMA for kids with proper chairs and popcorn that they can just run in and out of, desserts come with coins for getting your own sweets out of the vending machines, the slow cooked bbq meats are off the chart (my absolute fave is the beef rib - almost impossible to pull off at home and perfect every time here) - all in all an evening that everyone is going to love - review incoming but you know the drill - family style fail-proof fun 👍🏽 by @ruthallan
Went to the new @dahliastereo last night from the team behind @thefirehousemcr @ramonamcr and - maybe I’m wrong here but I think they also were the original founders of Deaf / Trof / Albert Hall and more. This was not a press visit - we just went along to check it out as I love firehouse and to my mind, they have always ahead of the curve - and Dahlia with its club-restaurant vibe is no exception. First things first - the light in the restaurant is exceptionally RED (see my face for evidence 🚨) so these pics don’t quite do justice to what’s an awesome menu of self-described ‘MANCHESTER’S FIRST LATIN INSPIRED OPEN FIRE KITCHEN, BARBECUE & CAMPFIRE COOKING..” We ate & drank: Rosita & Old Cuban ‘Latin spritz’ - £12 - Rosita is a kind of strawberry infused sparkling take on a negroni slightly bitter for me but I like the concept - Old Cuban is rum fizz energy. We had tortillas / pumpkin seed mole (this is GOLD - I love all moles thank you) - the brined / smoked / dusted BBQ chicken which is hearty and absolutely excellent - I can’t rate this enough - peanut & cucumber salad - great - halloumi layered with spices, nuts, vibes and chargrilled leeks with a really punchy Romesco, I remember eating at Firehouse and being really dazzled by the food - this again is just great food you want to eat any night of the week. The setting strangely reminded me of this really wild michelin star place I once ate in in LA 10 years ago called Animal - at time the dark lighting / club energy felt felt almost too avantgarde for a restaurant now it feels just fine to me. I loved the music / food / great vibe / thank you 🙏🏽💕🚨 by @ruthallan
Such incredible seats @royalexchangemanchester new production of #kinglear last night (note how pleased I am with my spot 😂) - the brand new production stars David Threlfall (Frank out of Shameless and a bazillion other things) as Lear and the multitalented Nadine Shah as Goneril - it’s a massively engaging, flashy, ferocious and distinctly Manc take on the classic 👌🏽 - I spotted @elbowofficial in the crowd as well as @mcrwire’s own @wolfmcfarlane 💕 - we’ve got a review incoming over at Manchester Wire however booking asap is wise if you fancy this one as many nights have sold out already. by @ruthallan
A few one night in #margate highlights 🥰 Hello with @ilia_sachini Coffee @bigshotdiner Breakfast @thegoodegg_margate Epic Soohie Calle retrospective @turnercontemporary featuring Bobby Gillespie who was just strolling around the show 🤟🏽 I barely recognised the town from my last visit 10 years ago - it’s really beautiful and bijou like a miniature Brighton with a spiky, arty attitude as you’d expect from Tracy Emin’s hometown and Madonna’s new fave hangout - 2 x trains an hour from St Pancras and it takes 1hr 20mins - can’t wait to get back to explore all the vintage shops, tiny art galleries and indie food places 💕 by @ruthallan
My friends who know me will know that I have been SCARED of public speaking for years so I just want to celebrate this moment yesterday when I was on a panel and it went pretty well. I’m not cured of my public speaking terror by a long shot, but I have found that practice definitely helps to make you more confident when it comes to talking in public! I’ve been doing drama classes for the last year with the Actor’s Lab in Salford which has really helped as well as trying to take any opportunity to speak to groups and each time I’ve noticed my fear level dropping a bit which is refreshing - it’s made me feel like life is a bit bigger than it was before and I’m actually starting to kind of enjoy it…. So that’s a nice change! These are some pics from yesterday which was my second panel of the year (never thought I’d say that!) and part of the Pro Manchester Creative Confernece at Bruntwood’s Circle Square - my co-panelists are Micheal Taylor (editor at The Business Desk), Jo Beggs (head of development at Mcr Art Gallery) and Nicky Unsworth - a branding expert and CEO - it was a fun panel about AI & Authenticity in the creative sector. by @ruthallan
September energy 🍸😵‍💫🍪 📸 Running-ish, @theeasyfishco , prepping for dinner w @eatwellmcr @maryellenmctague and @mrsthedough @staytreehousemanchester , Mcr’s Canal Street in BLOOM, second son, @restaurantarcadian spicy marg w @louisemosss , forest vibes, @gauchomanchester cookies & negroni , son @lachouquettebakery , eggs w fridge everything - @ottolenghi in his Substack newsletter recommended this ‘blend up all the aging ends of jars of olives / preserved lemons etc’ vibe and add to eggs / cold meats etc throughout the week and I’m IN, to the extent that I’ve also made a pesto marinade in the same vein, selling many things on @vinted - surprisingly easy 🤷🏻‍♀️, the most detailed book on Nordic breads and blood pancakes 🤟🏽 by @ruthallan
I love those things on instagram that are like ‘OMG CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS IS JUST OUTSIDE RUGBY?!’ And it’s some kind of insane gorge, dripping in ferns and vines and magic. Well Styal woods always feels THAT amazing to me - it’s so beautiful, with such great light and hidden paths and historic features - it’s such a great example of an English woodland that seems to be out of a fairytale 🫶🏽 I particularly love this Northern Woods bridge dating to 1825 - it’s special and you feel properly transported back in time as you walk over it - access to the right hand path when entering the woods and park at Quarry Bank NT for free 💕👍🏽 Also the children look particularly haunted in this shot which adds to the vibe IMO 👻 by @ruthallan
First visit to @restaurantarcadian Open fired, grillled vibes from @chef_andrew_sheridan - this was me visiting with my lovely friend @louisemosss and she reckons it’s one of her fave meals ever so that’s high praise. 📸 - Grilled flatbread w whipped feta & Aleppo chilli (YOU MUST GET THIS) - Fire-Roasted Prawns, Nduja butter, Garlic & Grilled Lemon - strongly recommend Wood-Roasted Carrots, Whipped Goat’s Curd & Pistachio - very nice, I make carrots like this at home a lot but if you a not a roasting carrot regular you will be after this - Charcoal Lamb Chops, Tandoori Marinade, Mint Chutney, Burnt Lemon & Pickled Shallots - these were excellent but they are £39 and kabana does a famous version for £8.50 which I like equally well 🤷🏻‍♀️ - Hispi Cabbage, Parmesan Butter - perfectly melting, lots of butter 👍🏽 🍸Spicy Marg by @ruthallan
Samedi à la boulangerie @lachouquettebakery avec @arthur_carlin My faves 🫶🏽 🥐Pain au chocolat 🧁Cinnamon bun 🥧Cardamon bun 🫔Sausage roll 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪Worlds finest ever ever chocolate chip cookie 👍🏽 by @ruthallan
Had dinner last night at the new look @gauchomanchester with my queen @shiverama - it was all very good and I encountered the actual lord of desserts which is their Dulce Du Leche cheesecake - plus a MASSIVE cookie freshly baked in a pan with a hunk of melting, creamy vanilla - yes thank you this is one for meat and grill lovers plus dulce fans like myself 🫶🏽💕 - Sweet & sour prawns - fillet steak & nduja butter & bearnaise (DOUBLE SAUCE FOR WINNERS) - cheesecake & cookies The vibe is elegant, expansive, upmarket and indulgent - just what the September doctor ordered to offset back to school stress 💕 by @ruthallan
First visit to @theeasyfishco in Heaton Moor - tiger prawns (£12 for 4) & tandoori scallops w curried crisp chickpeas, apple & tiny poppadoms (£18), cod loin w lemon, asparagus and salt and pepper cauliflower (this was a switch I asked for & it was in fact awesome - £32) & whole sea bream w samphire & chimmicuri (£28). For a fish restaurant the portions feel generous (which I like) and while it’s not cheap the selling point is its obvious freshness and sourcing. Easy fish is located in the back of the fish shop just down from the Savoy cinema - it’s a cute part of the village and it’s not like luxury but it feels like you’re eating in a very well run supper club - I really liked the vibe which was kind of in the know and they do some really lovely looking tasting boards and seafood platters too - plus affogato & STP 💕👍🏽 by @ruthallan
