We had to say goodbye to our friend, Remi, tonight. We only had him for a few years, but they were good ones. He had such a strong spirit and so much try. I will see you again one day, Remi boy, and we will hit the trails together again 💔 by @ruthboothr

As I sit here and watch my dad sleep in the hospital, I am struggling to remain thankful. He has made it out of ICU, but his prognosis is not good. On one hand, my dad has lived an incredible life, has traveled EXTENSIVELY and has seen some many beautiful places. He has given everything he could to his family and I would not be in the place I am now without his help over the years. He loved my mother so much and still loves her just as much today as when she was alive. For that I am eternally grateful, but he and I were finally reconnecting and now his health has taken a sharp turn for the worse. He has late-stage liver failure and the ammonia buildup in his blood makes him so confused. He is now in hospice care, for comfort. I don’t want to be selfish and keep pushing him to stay when he’s in such bad shape. I feel sad that now that my entire day can be spent with him, that he cMary Elizabeth Smithversation. Please pray for him and our family. My sister, Mary Elizabeth, is also struggling with this transition. I’m going to attempt to remain positive, but positivity grounded in reality. I think it’s the confusion/dementia type symptoms, which are the result of the hepatic encephalopathy, that bothers me the most. So, I’m going to sit here and watch college football (he loves college ball 🏈) with him and pray for God to give him peace and clarity. by @ruthboothr

We had such an amazing trip. We ventured out to Tillamook Bay the other day and spent the day at the beach. It was so peaceful! Yesterday we traveled out to Corbett Farm and spent most of the day playing with sassy animals and riding. My horse Raia was awesome! It was such a beautiful ride and I got to really explore the forests closer to the gorge, east of Portland. I love the forests in the Pacific Northwest. Also, just driving on the scenic byways has been a great experience. Fall has definitely started here and the colors of the foliage are truly remarkable. However, with all of the driving and traveling that we have done in the last week in and around the greater Portlandia area, I have not seen any violent protests, fires, or really anything out of the norm (for Portland that is 😂). I see people walking their dogs, skateboarding, bicycling with their children, etc. It is quiet, with the soft hustle of small shops, neighborhood dives and pubs, and everyone minding their own business. There is a peaceful protest that been he going on downtown, with a few hundred people, but it’s peaceful and it’s THEIR RIGHT TO PROTEST. This area is just as beautiful as I remembered it. I’m going to be sad when I leave my sister tomorrow. I’ve enjoyed our long-overdue catch-up session. by @ruthboothr

Beautiful sunset with a full moon rising in war-torn Portland. Everyone was out tonight with their children, dogs and cameras at the top of every major viewpoint to catch a glimpse of the backdrop. Once again, pictures do not do it justice. taken in Rocky Butte Natural Area by @ruthboothr
