Super-grateful @whitecolumns @sanna.nyc for including two works in “Bricks of Memory, Fragments of Home”

1. Jack Weil Law Library*
(2023) Dimensions vary.
Child-size desk and chair, legal texts relevant to a child’s defense from deportation, stuffies, crayons, stickers.
*Named for the eponymous federal immigration judge who testified in Congress that he is capable of teaching law to 3 and 4 year old children, and thus they should not be entitled to court-appointed counsel.

2. The Wall Street Journal, June 23, 2023
(2023) 22” x 21”
This monoprint is part of Full Spread, an ongoing series reconstituting newspaper front pages with climate-endangered migrants photographed along international waterways and borders.

Check it out on-line, in illustrious company with works by @mitsukobrooks @angelacappetta_ @annacone @patriciasuzannemiranda ✨✨✨✨✨ taken in White Columns by @ruthieabel

In 2017, I photographed “Emily”, a 9 year old who fled deadly violence in her home country and endured a harrowing trek to cross our southern border. (She’s holding her own print and her mother’s rosary in the image above).

Today Emily is a US Permanent Resident, studying for her AP literature exam and working at Dunkin Donuts to save money for college — she wants to study forensic psychology.

With gratitude, “family and faith” is included in “Touching/Feeling” on now @HalBromm gallery in Tribeca through Nov. 2 🩵

A week after apocalyptic flooding, much of my home state remains submerged — no power, no (clean) water, no cell service. 🙏 to those asking how to help — these 2 local orgs (tagged) are rapidly dispensing funds and food:
(1) Piedmont Culinary Guild 🌱supporting western NC farmers🌿 (rec by Latin + UNC alum and childhood neighbor Salem Suber) @pcg_charlotte
(2) Arts Asheville — helping artists who have lost entire homes and/or studios — rec by multiple artists — western NC’s craft tradition and community is unmatched 🩵 @artsasheville

Please consider supporting them ❤️‍🩹 taken in Blue Ridge Mountains by @ruthieabel

Perhaps best known for normalizing use of “penis” and “vagina” on air, Dr Ruth’s wisdom and advocacy extended to reproductive choice, mental health and human rights for all. 🤍May her memory be a blessing 🤍
