Everyone in the US over 16 is eligible to get their COVID vaccine! It’s amazing how many people and how many years it took to get to this point. I’m so thankful to all of the scientists and researchers who worked directly and indirectly on the technology behind this vaccines. 🤗 by @ruthmeharg

Let’s talk about the COVID vaccine. 💉 There’s a lot of bad information out there, and this is new technology, and it was developed really quickly, and it’s scary. I was feeling really unsure about it, so I decided to do some research to understand how this vaccine works. Y’all. My mind has been blown! 🤯 I wish I had gone into biology, I wish I had invested in Moderna 15 years ago, I just want to lean as much as I can about this because it is SO COOL! Here’s how I did my research - I did not watch or read anything about the vaccine at first. I started by learning about mRNA separate from any medical application. I got on @khanacademy and started watching videos about biology and genetics. I learned about cells and DNA and gave myself a strong base of understanding for how this vaccine might work. (I started with some base understanding of biology, if you don’t have that consider a class at your local community college if you really want to understand this stuff - it will be worth it.) Then I started learning about how the vaccine works and the history behind the development of mRNA for medical treatment. I hope that this vaccine will open the door to more research into mRNA technology, because this is gonna save a lot of lives. So if you’re feeling nervous about this vaccine, do your research. But know that watching YouTube videos of people whose opinions sound like what you want to hear isn’t research. Take the time to learn about this. I think you’ll be blown away. P.S. I know some actual scientists follow me, so if I’ve gotten something incorrect in this post, please let me know! P.P.S The corona typewriter is a real typewriter brand! Does anyone else remember the purple fingers in Iraq and Afghanistan on voting day? That election ink that left a stain proving that you participated in democracy? Those photos of people holding up their purple fingers are still with me years after I remember them flooding the news. This election if you have the ability to vote, please do. But keep in mind that many Americans have barriers to voting, and who you vote for can make a difference to their access in the future. Let’s make it easy for all Americans to have a say in their government! by @ruthmeharg

About a year and a half ago I said that things might start looking a little different on my feed. That didn’t really happen, instead I just posted a lot less. Now I think the different might be here! I’ve always loved working with traditional media, but it takes a lot of time and space that I don’t have right now. Constantly converting my desk from an art space to a study space just isn’t practical. But I can sit at my desk or on my bed a draw something on a tablet without worrying about the clean up, so right now I’m trying some digital drawing. Maybe they are sketches for paper pieces later, maybe they’re finished as they are, maybe they’re something else. For now I’ll be sharing some of them here when I have the mental energy. Which just so happens to be what this piece is about - mental health and protecting yourself. (Which can be healthy or damaging because life is never straightforward). But I’ll share more about that in my stories because this is already long enough. Anyone up for a little thought experiment? If something you have right now could be contagious, what would you want it to be? Hope? Organizational skills? Hand sanitizer? I think the thing I’d pick for myself (at least for today) is a love of learning. It’s something that makes my life better, and that I sure wouldn’t mind spreading around. by @ruthmeharg

It’s been awhile since I painted on wood, but self-isolating seems to come with loads of extra time. I’m currently filling mine with reading, painting and a fun photography project inspired by @jacobjonasthecompany. Check out their story highlight for some movement inspiration. Whew, I’ve been so slow to share the finished piece, but here are my little universe hands. They are obviously reminiscent of some very famous painted hands. I was aware of the similarity to “The Creation of Adam” while painting these, but I wasn’t necessarily intending to tie this painting to that idea. I think for me it’s more about relationships, tenderness and hesitation and what lies in that moment right before you touch someone. Each of those moments feels insignificant, but they’re each a part of the universe and all the little moments that make up more than we can comprehend. Prints available in my shop!
