I always forget to tell people that I offer this! 🙈
.
If you’re just starting out with gouache, Gouache Boot Camp is a completely free beginner resource I made to help with all the stuff that feels weird at first.
.
There are seven beginner classes, exercises to try as you learn, new Gouache Basics live classes, and a full painting tutorial so you can put everything together.
.
It’s a really lovely place to start if you’re new to gouache! 🌿

I love to add plants to my paintings, and these are my two favorite tips for getting great results! ✨

I love an MVP. In fact, it’s what most of my sketchbooks are filled with, and it’s been one of the best ways that I have found to help me show up and paint day after day.

If you don’t want the pressure of a big, lengthy project, give this a go! Sometimes it means trying out new colors, or practicing your brush strokes. Other times you can explore composition. Whatever your goal, try it as an MVP to make learning something new a little bit more fun!

Not everything is meant to be a masterpiece. But sometimes 15 minutes play with some new gouache and colored pencils feels like it’s recharging your soul.

I nearly always paint in a sketchbook, and recently I’ve been making small hand-stitched paper inserts for my paper republic journals for a bit of extra flexibility. I absolutely love them!! Because why buy just a sketchbook when you can make your own for about double the cost and a mere 4 hours of your life? 🤣

You can’t go wrong with a moody scene made from black and white plus a color. Because the layers are all separate values of the same color, it creates a great sense of depth and atmosphere, and it makes fog super easy to paint with a little white gouache! 👻🌙✨

A ‘trust the process’ kinda painting! Some projects are scarier than others at the halfway point- this was definitely one of them! 👻✨

If you can paint a single leaf with gouache, you can paint a vignette ✨ You don’t need a lot of time, or a starting idea, or many colors- you’ll build up happy little leafy scenes using basic silhouettes layered together to create a lush patch in your sketchbook 🌿 Fair warning though- they’re addictive!

A spooky favorite 👻 Different textures in each new layer to create something that feels way more complex than it actually is! I’d love to say I intentionally made the finished painting look like an eye, but that was just a happy accident! ✨

I love creating the October spooky tutorials for Get Gouachey, but this year I fancied something a little different than the usual haunted houses and orange pumpkins… so I present to you, the Glow in the Dark collection! 👻 These projects are all so fun to paint, and once again the capabilities of gouache continue to delight me! ✨
