16 years after his last visit to @rwcmd it was such a privilege for @rwcmdstrings to welcome back the extraordinary @jamesehnes and the wonderful pianist @andrewarmstrongpianist . We experienced an afternoon of the best teaching and advice in a masterclass, followed by a recital that evoked every emotion, complete inspiration and a huge amount of incredulity at the violinistic acrobatics! #rwcmdstrings #rwcmd #conservatoire #jamesehnes #violin by @rwcmdstrings

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy…? Our students teamed up with violinist Roberts Balanas for a unique performance of his arrangement of Queen’s iconic Bohemian Rhapsody, marking 50 years of the legendary anthem today. Part of RWCMD’s Big Strings Weekend, the event celebrated the versatility of string playing and inspired the next generation of musicians, with guest artists Jacob Shaw, Dominic Ingham and BBC NOW leading performances and workshops. — Is this the real life? Meet and greet strings bash-a big welcome to our new string students! by @rwcmdstrings
They were magnificent! Bravo to our amazing @rwcmd @rwcmdstrings Teplitz Quartet on their epic performance of Beethoven’s Quartet op.59 no.1. You were fantastic ambassadors for our string department, and we were hugely proud of you and your musicianship. So many thanks to the superb mentors @carducciquartet @fibonacciquartet (and thank you @lizzie_rowland for the informal photo!) #rwcmdstrings #rwcmd #conservatoire #musiccollege #musicstudent #scholarship #cardiff #violin #viola #cello #doublebass #livemusic #youngmusicians #youngstringplayers #scholarships #careersinmusic #studyingmusic #virtuoso #stringquartet #competition #cavatinachambermusictrust #beethoven by @rwcmdstrings
Last night it was a pleasure to see two of our amazing string players @mairimck_music and @annaleary.cello performing with @ensemblecambrica for a Colin Metters Conducting Masterclass Concert. It was brilliant to see one of our excellent alumni students @mikecliburn_violist in the orchestra too! #rwcmdstrings #rwcmd #viola #cello #conducting #conservatoire #conservatory #classicalmusic #strings #youngtalent #alumni #concert #masterclass #music #musicscholarship by @rwcmdstrings
We were blessed to be paid a visit a few weeks ago by @w.e.hillandsons and their beautiful instruments. From left to right, they are: 1. A Jason Reitenberger Guadagnini Model Violin finished two days before the visit 2. 1690 Grancino 3. A Stradivarius from 1701 4. A Gagliano Violin (undated) 5. W.E. Hills and Sons Guarneri Model Violin from 2024 As well as a 2024 Reitenberger Viola and a 1727 Villaume Cello. These incredible instruments were played by @grjviolin , @mairimck_music , @annaleary.cello and @ct_the_violin to demonstrate their sounds. We were also extremely lucky to see @wnotweet Concertmaster David Adams play the Stradivarius. A big thank you is owed to @simon6781 and @rebecca.selley for making this happen #rwcmdstrings #rwcmd #violin #viola #cello #doublebass #luthier #fineinstruments #masterclass #workshop #conservatoire #conservatory #music #musicscholarship #youngtalent #opportunity by @rwcmdstrings
As we look back on a busy week, one of the things that stuck out for us was the wonderful @rimespatrick teaching our strings students about Welsh Traditional Music. Wales is a country rich in folk music and we are extremely lucky to have an expert like Patrick share his knowledge about it #rwcmdstrings #rwcmd #classicalmusic #folk #folkmusic #masterclass #violin #viola #cello #doublebass #musicscholarship #music #musicstudent #conservatoire #conservatory by @rwcmdstrings
At Royal Welsh, we are fabulously lucky to work with the excellent @rachelpodgerofficial as our students explore Baroque and early music. With the challenges this repertoire presents, Rachel is a wonderful voice of expertise for our department to have access to. We look forward to welcoming her back and working with her again soon. As a footnote, thanks to the hard work of @simon6781 and @rebecca.selley , this week has been filled with enriching experiences for our string players. Stay tuned to see what they got up to... #rwcmdstrings #rwcmd #violin #baroque #baroqueviolin #earlymusic #masterclass #learning #music #classicalmusic #musicscholarship #talent #musicstudent #conservatoire #conservatory by @rwcmdstrings
Looking back on a busy term, one of our highlights definitely has to be hosting the Polish Folk Trio, Kroke. They came in and did a workshop on aural tradition, learning by ear, and improvising in unorthodox time signatures. It was an extremely interesting experience and we'd like to thank @simon6781 and @rebecca.selley for inviting them to Royal Welsh #rwcmd #rwcmdstrings #polish #polishfolk #klezmer #improvisation #aural #workshop #masterclass #fusion by @rwcmdstrings
