#fallforcostume Day 16 - rain
Yeah, you're unlikely to catch me running around in the rain in costume, but here's one of me and my bestie @honestlyjustlaura with matching umbrellas going to or coming from tea! by @rxninja76

#fallforcostume day 15 fire
A few months ago, I celebrated my 50th birthday with a 1976 themed costume party. Friends and family all joined in and came decked out in their flyest 70s outfits. So here's me, in my crochet romper and Afro puffs blowing out the flames on my birthday cake! by @rxninja76

#fallforcostume day 14 architecture
Sleeve puffs, cording, hoop skirts, corsets, bum pads, even sometimes just stiff layers and padding like in my Italian Renaissance "bullet proof bodice" that practically stands on it's own...I'm down for faking it with modern underwear when I can, but more often than not, these architectural elements are necessary to give a garment the right silhouette. by @rxninja76

#fallforcostume Day 13 - Wild Outdoors
Well, we're outdoors. What's wild is that my family allowed me to go convince them to dress for this (and the "skins" on my nephews) #awkwardfamilyphotos and go to #kingrichardsfaire Behind the camera is another one of my sisters dressed as a pirate. Ren Faire is a historical costuming gateway drug for so many... by @rxninja76

#fallforcostume Catch-Up, Day 12: Cozy Indoors ๐Ÿงต๐Ÿˆโ€โฌ›

Nothing exemplifies being cozy indoors quite like my most "helpful" assistant, Spooky. He provides such invaluable services as sweatshop foreman, judgy style consultant, pattern weight (as an alternative to cans of Heinz beans and silver candlesticks), yarn comfort and quality control, and, when necessary, keeps the sewing demons at bay with frantic zoomies.

Enjoy this collection of some of his helpful moments. I truly don't know how I'd manage without him. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’• by @rxninja76

5. reds/oranges - ๐ŸŠ This is my Strawberry Shortcake and Friends inspired costume that I wore for the phenomenal @michelequigley 1890s series. I'm Orange Blossom (Tom has a coordinating Bread Pudding costume, and @honestlyjustlaura has Strawberry Shortcake)

6. greens and 7. blues - ๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿ’šMy Regency Queen Bee costume is made from a gorgeous blue-green silk with gold embroidered bees ๐Ÿ

8. monochrome: YELLOW!!! ๐Ÿ’› (my favorite color)

Playing catch-up with this year's #fallforcostume
1. Beginnings - This was at the beginning of my journey into 18th-century costuming, or really, any historical costuming that wasn't purely fantasy (i.e., Ren Faire Elizabethan or Steampunk Victorian).

I didn't strive for "historically accurate" then, and I still don't. Not even "historically adequate," as I like to say. I'll always lean much more toward "historically adjacent."

I mean, I'm a modern, pierced, often blue-haired, feminist pharmacist who loves pretty costumes and hates to sew! ๐Ÿ˜‚

But as I've continued on this journey, my techniques have evolved, as have the choices I make about where I want to stay closer to extant fashions and where I'm perfectly happy to wander further away.

And honestly, that's part of the fun.

2. Details - it's the details of wild 1830s fashion that seemed so similar to traditional Korean fashion that I leaned into for this 1830s hanbok mashup.

3. Hats - back to the 1830s my first bonnet that I have EVER conceded to wear, and made for Newcastle Delaware last year. The 1830s make you do unexpected things you swore never to do...It's a slippery slope folks!

4. Shoes - My first pair of @americanduchess shoes weren't even mine. I borrowed @honestlyjustlaura Charlotte's(?) and pranced around Philly for Bastille day with my terrible foot problems with no pain, only normal fatigue. I've been a convert ever since. Kensingtons are my Holy Grail! by @rxninja76

The other night for dinner we tried a new fish I've never heard of called Opah (strange looking fish, but it was delicious!). I made it with rice and Korean style sides and seasonings (sigeumchi, oi muchim, chamgireum, yangnyeomjang, etc). So I called this dish...yup, Opah Gangnam Style. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ by @rxninja76
