Today marks the one year of my best friends passing, Ella Reese Walker. After a long battle with depression, she took her own life. Ella was kind, funny, and lit up every room she walked into with her infectious smile. Ella was going to be a freshman in high school this year and she loved music and sports. We grew up together and she impacted my life in more ways than I can possibly express. She introduced me to my first PG-13 movie and to Taylor swift. I wouldn’t change our time together for the entire world. I questioned during this time how I could experience all these beginnings of life without her. How was I supposed to enjoy them when I knew that she will never get the chance too? Someone so young was missing out on so much. But I realized she would’ve wanted me to live them all for her and that’s what I choose to do every single day. I first off wanna thank my friends and family for supporting me through this unimaginably difficult time. I also wanna give a word of appreciation to those I didn’t know so well, who still overwhelmed me with amazing amounts of love and sympathy. Lastly I want to reach out to those who are struggling with their own mental health like Ella and tell you that- it gets better. So many people love and care about you, more than you could even imagine. You can overcome it..and with time, you will. Remember to reach out to the people in your life and tell them you love them. Check up on those around you and show them you care. One of my biggest regrets is not doing that more often for her. Rest easy up there el, not a day goes by where I don’t think about you. :) by @ryan.steiskal
