I am proud to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and baseball career at a D2 JUCO, Rock Valley College! I would first like to thank my parents, because without them I wouldn’t be in the position I am in today. Thank you for always believing in me, always being by my side for all my failures and successes, and also sacrificing countless amounts of hours for me to reach another level of my dream. I would also like to thank Coach Herren, Coach Howard, and Coach Ingram for giving me the opportunity to play at the next level. Thank you to all the coaches I’ve had over the years at Whiteford, Rhino, and Joliet West. And thank you to everyone who has helped me reach this position. I appreciate you all more than words can describe. #GoldenEagleBall šŸ©µšŸ’›šŸ¦… by @ryan271508

365 days ago I tore my ACL. When I first injured my knee, I didn’t think it was that significant of an injury. I ended up continuing to play my senior year of my high school season after sitting out 2-3 weeks. After that I even ended up finishing the rest of the high school season with no ACL in my right knee, even though I would here and there tweak it, the most noticeable reaggravation occurring on my senior night, I continued to play through it. I carried onto summer ball to prepare for the start of my collegiate career, but halfway through summer ball I tweaked it again, and that is where my parents and I decided to go get it looked at to see what exactly we were dealing with before I headed off to college. When the results came back, my ACL was nonexistent, and because of me playing with no ACL, I damaged both sides of my meniscus. We were shocked; we didn’t think it could be possible for this to be that significant of an injury because of how I played through it. When I got the results, the thought ran through my head that I’d be done playing baseball. I was in little to no pain, and it was stupid to me at that time that I would be in more pain after surgery and I would have to go through such a long and dreadful recovery process. Looking back, I truly couldn’t be happier I decided to get the surgery. Sure, the pain and all the rehab I’ve been through aren’t necessarily the most fun things in the world to go through, but the number of lessons I’ve gained from this injury are monumental. It forced me to slow down and really understand what hard work actually looks like day in and day out. It taught me patience when nothing was moving as fast as I wanted it to; it showed me how to stay disciplined even when motivation wasn’t there; and it made me appreciate the small wins that I used to overlook. I’ve learned more about myself mentally and physically than I ever could have if everything just went perfectly. You can call me crazy, but I think tearing your ACL or going through a major injury is something everyone should have to experience at some point because for me it has been the best possible thing to ever happen; I wouldn’t be who I am today without it. by @ryan271508
