The BCA team applauds the government’s announcement today of Phase 2 of the Burnaby Hospital plan, and will keep pushing for a clear timeline on the rest of the project. 🏥

$210 million will expand and upgrade the emergency department and surgical unit, with work starting immediately on:

🚑 16 additional emergency treatment spaces and a new ambulance entrance
🔬 Upgraded operating rooms and 17 additional surgical prep and recovery bays
👩‍⚕️ Modern, purpose-built spaces for our health-care workers

📸 Latergram from last Saturday!

From knocking on doors and hearing directly from residents, to taking some new photos with my fellow @burnaby_citizens candidates, and everything in between, it was a full day out in the community.

I had the pleasure of attending the @burnabyfamilylife picnic, La Arepa Day co-hosted by @vcsbc_ and @colombianassociationbc, the 14th annual Recovery Day BC, and the Huaren Mid-Autumn Festival concert.

It was a busy day, but the hard work will pay off. Thank you to everyone who welcomed us and shared their time and celebrations.

Today, I had a chance to meet so many wonderful folks at the exciting Fiesta Mexicana. 🇲🇽 I got to eat tacos, dance to Banda, and even referee a few luchadors! 🌮 🎶 🤼

I received a warm welcome, great conversations, and incredible community spirit. ¡Viva La Fiesta! 🎉 by @ryan4burnaby

Still getting used to the camera, but we’re definitely getting used to knocking on doors. 😊

Out with my fellow @burnaby_citizens candidates Rea Park @rea4burnaby, Ryan Erwin @ryan4burnaby and Paul Kwon @paulchoibc, meeting Burnaby residents, listening to what matters to them, and having the conversations that shape our city.

One door and one conversation at a time. 🧡

Today, I had the honour of attending the 50th Annual Indigenous Elders Gathering through my work with Seniors First BC. I was surrounded by Elders whose presence, wisdom, stories, and vitality were deeply inspiring.

One booth that especially caught my attention was the Ne’nagwa’nakwala Project, which shared the history of St. Michael’s Residential School in Alert Bay. My grandmother was a student at St. Mike’s. I found myself looking through the archival photographs, wondering if I might recognize her among the faces.

I grew up with my grandma, and she was one of the most influential people in my life. She was an inspiring woman who was featured Portraits: Canadian Women in Focus in recognition of her hard work and accomplishments. She made sure I stayed grounded, connected to who I am, and learned our traditional Heiltsuk teachings.

I know my grandma would be proud of me. If she were still here, I know she would be one of my biggest supporters.

Her teachings continue to guide me, and I carry her love, strength, and wisdom with me every day. ❤️
