Dear Dad,

It feels surreal to write to you, knowing you’re no longer here. I’ve carried these words in my heart, too afraid to let them out. But now, feels like the right time. Maybe apart of me refuses to believe you’re gone. This is absolutely the hardest goodbye I’ve ever had to say to you.

You were more than just a parent. You were a constant source of strength, knowledge, and unconditional love. You taught me what it meant to be kind, hard working, and to stand by my values and beliefs.

You weren’t perfect and never pretended to be. But that was one of the many things that made you unique. You showed me through your life experiences that it’s fine to make mistakes, to fail, and to use those opportunities to learn and grow. No matter the adversity, challenges, and difficulties that would arise in your life you made sure to never give up, never complain, and to always give your full effort. Instead of words, you were always a man of action.

On and off the rugby field, your life was a constant battle. From growing up in financial hardship to overcoming the challenges of playing rugby at Isipathana College and ultimately earning a spot on the Sri Lankan national team. Even immigrating to the US and being able to provide for us had its own set of challenges. Yet, you never gave up and were always pushing through. And for nearly a year, battling cancer brought unimaginable pain, yet you fought with unwavering strength till the very end. I’m so grateful I could support you through it all.

Thank you for everything you have done for me. Thank you for always supporting me when I needed advice and someone to talk to. Thank you for helping me become a man. Thank you for the lessons, the sacrifices, and all the love you’d given me.

You showed me what hard work looks like, what real strength is, and how to stand tall when life tries to knock you down. I will continue to move forward to honor your legacy that you left behind. I promise to take care of mom and sis.

There’s so much more I could write, but I have the rest of my life to tell you. Keep watching over me. Until we meet again ❤️

Rest easy legend 🏉.
Love you dad.
