Pro solo debut in the capital 🏛️

This was my first time competing in the pro solo division and feeling what it’s like to race against the best in the sport. There’s something special about entering the start tunnel alongside 50+ people who all train and prepare the same way you do and getting to fight it out run after run and station after station. Needless to say I’m more excited than ever to keep improving and building upon what I’ve done so far.

What. A. Weekend. Extremely happy to have the opportunity to compete twice in one day. Big thank you to @caitbshae for all the training and prep to race with me. For anyone who’s interested, my thoughts and breakdown of the races👇

RACE ONE: Men’s Open - 1:07:58
This felt so good, such a satisfying feeling to execute the plan as I laid it out. When I first signed up for this, I didn’t realize just how different of a race it is when doing it by yourself. Much more goes into pacing and controlling efforts at various points during the race. My goal was simple: run MY race. The plan to do that involved staying within myself and finishing strong. When everything was done, I finished 22nd overall and 6th in my age group. Excited to build on this and make improvements, especially in transitions between stations.

RACE TWO: Mixed Doubles - 1:13:56
This was a fight, no other way to put it. With only 3 hours between finishing men’s open and starting this, nutrition and hydration was always going to be the biggest challenge. Almost immediately into the race my legs were tightening up which eventually resulted in my entire hamstring cramping in run 7. That said, we shifted our strategy as we went and never quit. I’m very happy with the effort and fun had during the race, but know that we can lower that time considerably. Thank you Caitlin for pulling me through some of those low points😂

Lost Lands is always incredible, but something about this year felt different. From the production, to the music, to great friends both old and new, it was special. Sent a video to Zach a few months ago saying “this looks fun” and we decided to go after it. Something completely out of our comfort zone, pushed our limits, and met a whole lot of good friends along the way. Couldn’t be happier about competing in this sport. I guess this means I enjoy hybrid training now¿
