One thing about queer and trans people—we will transform! In our November Queer Dance Freakout show, I performed as an alien, Mother™, a particle/wave, ARTPOP-era Gaga (well, delusional freshman me in college), a horror movie villain, trash, a detective, and versions of me ranging from can’t-get-out-of-bed depressed to tender to indecisive to to joyful. I have so much gratitude and love for the QT cuties in Queer Dance Freakout for supporting each other in unleashing our collective creativity and courage and vulnerability and audacity. Absolutely wild thinking about how my friends have changed my life this year! Can’t wait to keep creating in 2024.

Feeling so much joy and gratitude for my Queer Dance Freakout family! I wanted to share some moments from our recent shows: at the Steppenwolf Theatre (as part of their LookOut series), at the Chicago Music Scene Pride event at The Cubby Bear, and our Season 3 show at Elastic Arts. It’s been a huge honor to be part of an ensemble that’s so full of creativity, generosity, compassion, energy, silliness, and vision. I can’t wait to continue collaborating on new works, sharing our stories with audiences, and shaking our booties 🥰

I am so so so grateful to dance with the amazing group of artists that is Queer Dance Freakout! Joining the company has been a HUGE source of joy, learning experience, and highlight of my year. During college, dance and movement helped me explore and express my gender identity (shout out FlyPeople!). The past few years, though, I struggled to stay connected to dance and also embodiment in general. Queer Dance Freakout has been such an affirming, nurturing, and celebratory space to learn what dance means to me now at a different age, size, and phase of my gender journey. Plus, it’s all the more meaningful to do that in a community of queer and trans artists who I admire immensely.

It’s such a fun show with a ton of variety and surprises! We are performing at 7pm on Sunday May 14, 21, 28, and June 4 at Elastic Arts. Buy sliding scale tickets at https://events.humanitix.com/queer-dance-freakout-season-3
