Couples who dance together, stay together 💃🕺

In February 2024 we started dating. In March we started dancing together (literally just wiggling our arms on each other). And we’ve been doing both ever since!

Between the two of us, we have 30+ years of dance experience that includes contact improv, hiphop, acro, liquid, break, salsa, tango, hustle, and swing. And once we found that out, we couldn’t stop.

Because partner dance is more than just fun; it’s a microcosm of relationship skills.

A great dance happens through trust, understanding, and communication. Sure, you can’t really talk on the dancefloor, but you can say SO much with body language.

Certain movements, looks, gestures and touches become code for things like: “spin left for a dip”, “I want you to lift me”, “bodyroll up.”

When you can hear what your partner wants without saying a word, you build trust, safety, and a knowing that they understand you🥹

Dancing is more than movement. It’s saying everything you want, being understood, and receiving it, without ever speaking a word.

Since we posted this adventure on our story a while ago, we’ve had people in real life ask “so did you really just find a random abandoned canoe in the woods and use it??” And the answer is yes 😂😂 We went AGAIN recently, and it really is such an immaculate private spot in nature with a canoe so perfectly placed 😂

Shoutout to @collininkind aka @tangibleplanetvisualmedia for getting the best video of us dancing we’ve ever seen! 😍

This was late in the evening at Rooted Flow when Collin found out he could swing through, and he just so happened to have his camera with him!

Just as the last of the light was fading from the sky, the DJ played Apsara Calling. And when the drop hit, well, this happened 😉 by @ryanfavery

Creating @rootedflowfest with @ryanfavery and the help of @sustainablesounds & @ecstaticdancema was one of the hardest AND best things Ryan and I have ever done🥹 Bringing you guys into the forest to dance, connect, heal, cry, grow, and laugh, was truly incredible… The safe, intimate setting allowed for such deep connections and healing to take place. I’m so grateful for each person that came. The weekend wouldn’t have been the same without each and every single one of you.

Thank you @lynnieflowz for capturing these special moments. ROOTED FLOW FEST WAS SO COLORFUL AND MAGICAL!! AHHHH❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙

Thank you 👇
Each and every one of you, for coming out to build something so beautiful.
Yes, we set the space.
But you filled it with life, laughter, love, movement, expression, everything.
I’ve always said that there’s two things you need to fill a space with for a festival: equipment, and people.
Without the people, it’s just a bunch of gear.
Without the gear though, it’s a bunch of people.
But the people are where all the magic comes from.

And you brought it with all your hearts.

Two things:
1) We’re going to set up a group chat / community chat thing for everyone who shared in the experience to connect, share photos, and all that good stuff.
It’ll probably be on WhatsApp. I have no idea how to do it 😅 But Atira does, and I’m optimistic, so it’ll happen!

2) We have a lot of photos to go through that we’re very excited to share! We’ll dump them in the group chat once it’s made, and be posting them here :)

In the meantime, if you see this, pleeeeease encourage people to follow @rootedflowfest so they can see when the chat’s active, see photos, connect, and be informed about the next one!

Thank you, again, for bringing the magic of yourself.

Should’ve taken more pics of this before shipping it out 😅

This is probably my favorite piece I’ve made. Watermelon tourmaline and amazonite set in copper.

A friend of mine commissioned this piece. He wanted maroon and green, and asked if I could make something that looked like a dagger.

Soooo I figured watermelon tourm was the obvious choice for that color combo. And I went with a wiggly wobbly edge to give the vibe of an aztec obsidian blade. Plus a huge bale for the handle.

I love how it turned out. What do you think?
