Popped into the @armadilloandco Fitzroy showroom to check out their new Venezia collection in person.
Their first rug made entirely from pure silk, hand-knotted as one solid field of colour. I loved how the tone shifts as you move around it, with the light catching the silk differently at every step, creating this beautiful sense of movement and depth.

The palette, shaped by the frescoes and paintings of Venice, offers a spectacular range of colours.

It feels incredibly simple, but there’s so much happening in the surface. Simple is often the most complex.

The @marlo.lyda lamps complement the collection beautifully too, with their sculptural forms and soft, diffused light adding another layer of warmth and atmosphere to the space.

You really need to see it and walk around to appreciate it. Can’t wait to bring it into an upcoming project.

Small apartments can pack a punch and don’t need to be boring.

For our Domain Road, South Yarra concept... A 70s brick block with good bones, is being given a second act: oxblood glaze, rosso terrazzo, travertine and glass brick that catches the light. Moody, but built for real life. Cinematic yet practical.

Perched on Level 1 in the existing dwelling at our Carlton project, which overlooks a beautiful tree lined street, the Main Bedroom is shaped by light and proportion.

The existing heritage shell is left to speak, while contemporary insertions are quietly woven throughout.

Freestanding joinery is conceived as furniture - sculptural, functional and intentionally understated while allowing the original architecture to lead.

A space designed for slowing down; to retreat, rest and simply be.

In the adjacent ensuite, a rich plum marble vanity anchors the space. Designed with equal consideration for beauty and function. by @ryanfernandesdesign

I tend to get obsessive and go down rabbit holes and currently I seem to be drawn to objects in glass.

I love how glass can change the entire feeling of a space catching light, reflecting what’s around it, introducing movement without adding visual weight.

I’m most drawn to it when it moves away from the rigid and architectural toward something softer, fluid, playful. For me it’s less about transparency, more about atmosphere it can generate

If you’re a collector, there are so many different style and schools of glass, from Murano to the Swedish to build a collection. Closer to home we are lucky to have @canberraglassworks as the largest dedicated glass studio facility in the country and is doing a fantastic job preserving this wonderful craft. by @ryanfernandesdesign

Introducing our new project with @archstudio_melbourne

Carlton Jewel Box.

A considered renovation that preserves the charm of a Victorian terrace while inviting greater light, flow and connection.

Conceived as a jewel box within a Victorian shell, the home is transformed into a richly layered sequence of intimate spaces, where heritage, craftsmanship and personal history unfold.

In response to the site’s limited natural light and labyrinthine plan, we’ve created a series of moments and experiences — each revealing something new as you move through the house with a strong connection to the outdoor

Rich materials, collected artworks, bespoke joinery and carefully framed views will create a sense of gradual discovery. Brass, stone, timber and fabric catch the changing light, bringing warmth, texture and a quiet luminosity throughout the day.

Every material and furniture chosen for how it feels in the hand and in the home for our client . From studio samples, on-site meetings, to custom designs …it’s been a steady build toward something calm, elegant and genuinely liveable.

At the heart of what I truly enjoyed @jia.curated organised by @budimanong and his wonderful team, were the spontaneous encounters with visitors from across Asia, Europe, the UK and Australia. These encounters encouraged conversation and allowed different disciplines, materials, practices and perspectives to exist alongside one another.

A new vernacular and confidence ran through the exhibitions, where heritage meets craft, problem-solving and resourcefulness, and where constraints drive innovation. The approach felt less focused on the individual and much more collective; a reflection of how design in Asia is increasingly being shaped through communities, local knowledge, materials and shared cultural memory. This resonated with my own heritage and with the way I think about design: that culture and memory are often carried through rituals, objects, food and the handmade.

Perhaps that is what stayed with me most from @jia.curated . It wasn’t simply an exhibition of beautiful objects or innovative pavilions. It was an experience of how design can become embedded in place; responding to climate, landscape, culture and community rather than existing separately from them.

There was something wonderfully nostalgic about it too: the simple joy of outdoor play, the feeling of bare feet in the sand, seeing kids and families engage with design brought back memories of childhood afternoons spent outside. Yet at the same time, it offered a compelling glimpse into a future where design is less about domination and more about coexistence. by @ryanfernandesdesign
