The real Philippines 🇵🇭 / I’ve never felt so close to my roots. Last being in the Philippines when I was in grade school, I always considered Chicago my true home.

I never had a big family, a big group of friends, or experienced what big family gatherings looked like.

It’s always been just me and my parents. Christmases, thanksgivings, birthdays.

Us three against the world.

I would hear about my cousins and relatives in stories, or see glimpses of them on FaceTimes, but at that time they were just names that drifted in and out of memory as I focused on my own life.

My trip here has been a missing piece to my
whole. I have more home in the Philippines than anywhere else in the world.

Not much I can really put into words honestly, but I love my family here so much. I love the life they’ve made and the memories they’ve given my parents.

My only regret is not being here sooner to see it.

I’ll work my hardest for them.

The kind that cuts deep and leaves a scar. The kind that feels like it’s never going to heal. The kind that still stings even when it’s patched. This is the kind of pain that creates the strength to grow. To overcome everything by @ryanmadayag
