Being a FL Rattler hits different, but being a Tallahassee Rattler hits home!

Today is College Decision Day, and it took me back to where I was three years ago. My mom had me apply to 20 schools 😂… and I got into all 20, but in my heart, I already knew where I wanted to be 🧡💚

No scholarship, recruiter, or “fresh start” could pull me away from the love I have for FAMU.

Tallahassee is my home, but nobody really talks about the silent struggle of growing in the same place you’ve always been. Learning how to stay true to my roots while becoming someone new wasn’t easy—but it was necessary.

I didn’t just stay home… I grew here.
I learned here. I changed here. But what I also discovered is no matter where life takes me next, I’ll always be a Tallahassee Florida girl, my growth only helps me put on for my city!

Anyway, here we are 3 years later, on the heels of graduation day and I’m so excited to say, this has been the BEST decision I’ve made, and I look forward to joining the ranks of so many accomplished FAMU grads.

So, cheers to FL sunshine, Publix chicken, southern charm, and a great education. And now, we go alumna!👩🏽‍🎓🐍✨

To the College of Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities,

Thank you for working so hard for our programs. As a product of two CSSAH programs, I am overwhelmed with the opportunities the college has given us to develop our critical thinking, leading, and speaking skills. Many people think social science programs are “easy” but it takes a special type of skill to solve problems that don’t have a finite solution. Through CSSAH I was able to shine a light others tried to dim and I am so grateful for every opportunity I have been given.

To the Department of Social Work,

This program has been life changing and eye opening. I decided on social work because of my hearts desire to help our most vulnerable population, but being in this program showed me the multifaceted ways in which social workers shape and change the world! From education, welfare, and mental health, to social policy and advocacy, this program has highlighted the many paths a social worker can take, and has prepared us for them all! My worldview has expanded, I am much more aware of who I am and my place in society, and I truly appreciate all this department has poured into me.

To Dr. Kenisha Thomas, my girl!

Thank you so much for everything! You believed in me, pushed me, and gave me opportunities to grow and lead! You have inspired me and uplifted me in times where life got hard, and you fussed at me when I needed to get it together😂. Thank you for caring and making my time here so special and meaningful. I now have a deep love for social policy and I owe that to you!

Welcome to the 20s ✨

As I reflect on my teens the word that describes my experience the most is growth. Through every experience I have grown into the young woman I am today. So grateful for my journey and looking forward to all that the 20s have to bring. Stepping into this new phase feeling…GOOD!
