I’m writing to convey my deep sadness at the passing my good friend and colleague, Brian Longacre. As our long time Director of Operations, Brian was intimately involved in the daily operations of our restaurants. He worked closely with every member of our team, giving his time and attention selflessly wherever he could be helpful. Brian never hesitated to roll up his sleeves and do the difficult job. Whenever we’d discuss a particularly challenging or, frankly, boring-but-necessary task, he’d look at me and shrug: ‘We’re just choppin’ wood, sir.’ Then he’d take a swig of his Diet Pepsi - never ever Coke - and jump right in to tackle whatever was at hand with his trademark generous spirit and sense of excellence. Brian was an operator’s operator, equally comfortable managing a shift and cleaning up the back-end of the POS. If handling the small, gritty details ever bothered him, I never heard it. I am grateful to Brian for so much. His friendship. His ready smile. And, of course, his professionalism. Brian Longacre mattered to us and to our businesses. We will miss him. In this difficult time, we’re thinking of his family who we had the pleasure of meeting over the years. We weren’t ready to lose him. I can’t imagine how you must feel. Rest in peace, Brian. 🎙️New podcast alert! Most local businesses do not fail because the owner does not care enough. Usually, it’s the opposite. The owner cares deeply. Works constantly. Solves problems all day. Carries the stress home. Keeps showing up.But bottomless passion is not a strategy.
