Rivi brew co back yard ultra - 🏆

12 4.2mile laps of Rivington, on the hour, every hour with the last lap which decides who wins. Route unknown until the morning of the race (hilly as of course)
First time running over marathon distance.

Spent most of the day with @livvybeeruns @melissa__pyle @move_withabs @kerri_wallbanks7 and the unsung hero the cheif support crew @smithy1389 thank you to them for making the day so good and getting me through the day, proud of you all!

I pretty much aimed to come in every lap roughly 48-50mins to give myself time to have abit of recovery time and to get some nutrition down. Always have @winrowperformance in my corner and thanks for the help with this 👊🏼

Last few laps I started to test what I had left in the legs and started to feel good, Coming in to get ready for the last lap which was an out and out race to decide who takes the win. Plan was simple - Have a gel, swig of a drink, put on the Horwich RMI vest and then get ready to go to the well 😂
Felt really good on the last lap even tho it started fast. Found myself in the lead about a mile in, Until I missed a turn, which put me back into 3rd and a fair gap to the lead 🤦 only me could run a loop 11 times and get it wrong on the 12th. Luckily had enough to catch back up and open a gap again. Mint feeling crossing the line, I am always overwhelmed by the support and the people who always back me! It’s unreal + I’m a lucky man

Well done to everyone who started yesterday regardless of how far you got, you’re all awesome. Thank you to all volunteers and marshals who was mega all day.
And special mention to my family and friends who turned up throughout the day to support and the shouts especially on the last lap. It means so much to me and appreciate it loads!

Loved the concept of this event, may do it again next year. I’ve always said Rivington belongs to Horwich 😉

1 week on from Ironman wales
(Couple of beers)
With the day starting well once thunderstruck was ringing out on the beach. I actually felt decent in the swim. Came out probably exactly where I was suppose to for me with wales always being a slower swim.

Running up the zig zags I could already hear the Icelandic Snee chant echoing from around the corner from the lads who some have been out drinking until gone 2am. respect. 🫡

On to the bike. You know early on how you’re going to feel if it’s going to take a while for you to get into things but I felt good. Until about 14miles in I lost the bike on a greasy corner where it seems others before had also and hit the deck hard. As me and my expensive new bike went bouncing down the road and into a bush I lay on my back in a lot of pain staring into the sky, seeing the dragon circling me ready to swoop in and take its final bite I recalled Neil warnocks famous quotes. ‘That’s a load of bollocks, you’ve got to die to get 3 points’ and I got back up. With help from the paramedics I soon got back going but with really bad hip pain when riding out the saddle. A puncture at 90miles showed that the dragon shows no mercy.

Into T2 I soon realised I couldn’t run without bad pain from my hip. I eventually set off knowing this could be a very long walk. As the Welsh locals gave me massive amounts of motivation ‘go on Ryan boy, you’re absolutely flyin’ as I walked past them. I soon got hold of some pain killers (thanks @ironman.daniel ) which eventually kicked in and I got going for a fair bit. These soon wore off and the hip pain return with the fatigue of the marathon. Seeing DD on lap 3 helped where he ran with me with a bottle of beer in hand, I ask how many he is up to he replied at least 8 as he was pulling away from me running in birks and a Estrella.
Not far from the finish and seeing DanMP and Rigby I thought I may get some inspiring reassuring message to get me over the line but a simple ‘hurry up Snee’ was all that was needed.

Jokes aside. glad I actually finished and respect to everyone.
Shoutout to the support crew who was epic all weekend. Wouldn’t say I slayed the dragon just batted it away until 2028 taken in Tenby, Pembrokeshire by @ryansnee

We will try this one again.😬

All racked for Ironman wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow and taking on this tough course. After last year, and it’s the mindset I’ve always had the main goal is to finish. Training could have been better but the dragon 🐉 doesn’t care about excuses. Can’t wait to get after it!

Good luck to everybody

Another fun day doing a daft hobby at
bolton 70.3 - 8th

Solid day all round really, soon got dropped off smithy’s and DanMP’s feet in the swim, might have to start doing a turn on the front at COD squad swim sessions. Solid enough bike and okay run considering had calf issues on the run, hopefully nothing to serious, I did want more on the run and was banking on it but couldn’t really get going and felt like I was compensating. but it’s what ever happens on the day and you have to deal with it! As the GOAT would say - Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda.
The night finished off with MP smashing 3 glasses of red wine in his bar.

Inspired by everyone out on course, I’ve met some amazing people over the years doing this race, many I now call my closest mates. The community and NW Tri scene is like no other. Everyone just getting after it and cheering each other along the way. Class!

Massive thank you to everyone who came out to support or gave me a cheer out there. It’s unreal, feels like every corner someone is there! Means so much especially when you’re in a world of pain 😂 also the t shirts which were made were so good! 🙌🏻 x

Some hobby, I don’t think I’ll ever give up on this race 😂. But for now it’s just about getting fit to try and slay the dragon

2up duathlon, one of the biggest show downs in the North west, if not UK.

Felt pretty good on the day

Pleasure to partner up with the Wigan bull, team name - Horwich hitman & XS bully. Thank you to maysey who got me this for my Bday, I’m just glad we got round the course without him kicking off with anyone. class to take 2nd overall.

Great lil battle with war horse @danielmcparland and goat @tom_rigby89 whilst it lasted. Depending on what contracts are signed next year we will run it back and maybe be even closer 👀
2 Legends and great mates. Even tho apparently there legs have gone.

Finished off with a few (to many) pints at rivi brew co

Well done to all who raced, Looking forward to seeing what comes this year 🙌🏻 taken in Rivington by @ryansnee

Class day yesterday down at @theathleteprojectmcr with legend @h_m_walker!
Helen has some of the best equipment there is and is so knowledgeable. If you’re after some data 🤓 or testing I would highly recommend.
Even tho I think my lactate results were annoyin her 😂 I got some great stuff and highlights were I’m currently at after a big couple months hardly training and a lot of 🍺.

Great to have @phil.ellison down also during the day. I’ve enjoyed a slightly different approach into training so far. Even tho you’re not guaranteed to improve, it’s all Learning, which is what it’s about. Lotssss of things to be excited about in the next few months regarding my own training and goals to get into the coaching world. I just need to crack on now!

Smithy was also there doing his hyrox sim before racing next week, leading the way as usual. Looking in fine form, kept his top on as well, Got to respect it.
Might have a dabble myself soon, surely can’t be harder than a day on the tools 🔧 taken in Performance Lab by @ryansnee

Carlsberg don’t do cross country teams, but if they did…

Class day at the first Manchester league XC. These are always a wake up call to get fit 😂 but great training 💪🏼

V proud to be ‘captain’ of the men’s team. Thank you to all the lads + ladies who have signed up. I hope you somewhat enjoyed it and stick with it. - think of the gains 😂
I think atleast 10 missing ish from this pic but still a great turn out.

We may not be the quickest out there but guaranteed to have the most banter 🍻

Ironman Leeds
(No san Miguel’s consumed writing this)
Stood in the line ready to start with legends Foggi, DanMp and Elliot. Waiting for thunderstruck to come on.
We’ve spent a good few times in the delph swimming now and we joked about the ‘pace line’ in Leeds that may happen (Just trying to stay on Elliot’s feet). Lap 1 of the swim it was happening, with every sight looking for danmp’s windmill stroke or Elliot’s purple hat.
Lap 2 I lost abit of time with it being busy but fortunately whilst running to T1 I spotted both Dan and Elliot and the dream of us all entering the tent together was still on.

Running into the tent and sitting next to the warhorse DanMP who was having a melt down as his visor had come off his secret weapon the rudy helmet. “It’s a long day Dan” was said and of we went running to the bikes but not without seeing Elliot who was putting on his bike shoes. A friendly slap on his backside for making the dream a reality.

The bike was going smoothy, tough course. There were times were Dan would be pretty much out of sight and times where I managed to close back up. Approaching black hill for the 3rd time and with my legs wishing I rode atleast 20watts less a bad gear change jammed my chain and bent the links. From then on it would not stay on a single gear and constantly changed on its own every revolution. I thought it might be another Cork scenario where I run up with it but managed to grind it up and was nursing it back to T2 where the war horse zipped back pass with about 3 miles to go. not a look or word said. The Iron war was still on going.

Onto the run and I was feeling pretty good, like the bike course the run is brutal. Eventually starting to slow down mainly due to bad pacing. Which I’m abit gutted about as I would say my run is probably what I’m most confident in.
Coming into the finish with @james_budge it was a case who could do the best Tommy fury impression. Jokes aside James is a top guy and athlete and is always strong. Definitely kept me going on that run 🤝🏻. … taken in Leeds, England, UK by @ryansnee

Bolton 70.3 2025

6th overall 3rd age cat (new age cat for me 😭)

Half decent swim, solid bike for me and a run which I couldn’t ask much more of with dealing with a knee injury since London marathon which caused training to be on/off.

I really believe, at least how I feel being local, bolton is a really special Ironman event the support makes the race what it is. From the Icelandic Snee chant on Old kiln lane to the run course where I don’t think I ran round a corner without someone shouting my name and encouragement. It really is epic and took me back. I can’t thank them people enough - legends!! ❤️
I feel very lucky to be able to do this mad hobby and experience it all, I’ve met some incredible people doing it.

It’s crazy to look back and think where you was a few years ago.
When on Sunday you’re getting time gaps to 3rd place and feeling slightly disappointed with 6th place in the end. There really is 0 ‘talent’ with me just hard work, which I love. I firmly believe if you surround yourself with the right people and simply work hard you can go far.

Epic to see everyone rippin it on sunday and catching everyone’s war stories after the race, respect to all 🫡
I may sit down with a few San Miguel’s and do a proper ‘race report’ if people want it.

next up is a Leeds away day 🍻
