Amy Sherald X WMS&CO

Speaking to Sherald’s portraiture (“still lives”) and to the emotional movement that occurs in private reflection (stationary). What is still does not lack power – it holds it.

Designing a ritual that mirrors the internal life of the user without insisting on narrative. An object that witnesses rather than performs.

Built to witness you

Clarity isn’t required
Intimacy lives in contradiction
What stays often doesn’t announce itself
What’s closest rarely asks to be seen

Conditioned to Conceal

We’re often conditioned to hide the body’s honest reactions. But there is beauty in the curve of a spine, the pull of skin, the lines we inherit from living. A sunburn meant to heal. A posture shaped by effort. Our bodies are in constant negotiation with the world—reacting and adapting. This project is about making those reactions visible.

An experimental study on oral rituals, control, and deception—using gum and cigarettes as parallel systems of coping. For the self-aware who call themselves out / love to be called out on their BS!
