Dear Nursing School,

You broke me down in ways I didn’t know were possible. You cost me time with my family and friends. You made me question my self worth, my intelligence and more often times than not, my sanity. At times you even made me feel alone.

Sometimes, you felt completely impossible, while at other times you felt manageable.. But you never felt easy. Sometimes when I thought I had figured it all out, you proved to me that maybe I didn’t.

You broke me down in so many ways, but you built me up in a bigger way.

You taught me that I can persevere through hard things. You taught me to never take advantage of the privilege to learn. You taught me that temporary sacrifice is worth the reward. You gave me friendships and experiences that will last a lifetime. You made me believe that maybe, just maybe, I did understand what you were trying to teach me. That every lecture, assignment and tricky test question had a purpose. The purpose was teaching me how to save someone’s life.

Nursing school, you were by far the biggest challenge thus far. But you have also been the biggest accomplishment. Thank you for breaking me down and building me up.. in to a Registered Nurse.

Thank you, Jesus, for the calling you’ve placed on my life and for meeting me at every break down and every victory through it all. Thank you for blessing me with the best, most supportive family, friends, instructors and opportunities.

Rylie Worthy, RN, has a nice ring to it.
