No shortage of inspiration for a project called Golden Hour in my days. In trying times, I’m trying to walk in the light.

I’m thrilled with how this mural for Temescal Brewery turned out. The design reflects my experience spending time at the place with the people that pour themselves into making it great. I feel very grateful to have found the ‘magic portal’ into a beautiful community. Shout outs below 💕
Thank you @temescalbeer for the trust. Putting it out there, this is the first of many murals in Oakland. ✌️
Hit me up in October if you have a blank wall.

We can’t wait to show you this project!! But we must wait a little while longer. Until then enjoy the inspiration that informed the work.
This mural for @creekhausorinda has been brewing for most of the year. The Paymun team gave me the opportunity to bring something deeply personal, universal, textured, historic, & mystical to their new space. It’s been an honor to make a mural that is the subtle centerpiece to Creek Haus. taken in Orinda, California by @rymie

I love how these came out. If you are in the Bay Area this weekend you can snag one on 9/12 at their sf pop up taken in Equator Coffees & Teas by @rymie

Perk of procreating: in 18 short months I’ve got a studio assistant. Her process is a bit chaotic but it’s really working out to have an extra set of (little) hands for these big personal projects I’ve been doing in between client murals lately 😄 scroll to the last one by @rymie

I’m so glad I was able lend my skills to my local toy experts @the.prize.booth last week to install their OG mural (designed by @jillianailsa) in their new home on Santa Maria Ave. Excited to chase Margot around the new space in September 😅 taken in Castro Valley, California by @rymie

EXTRA LIFE — revisiting this mural I painted in an Oakland headquarters around this time last year. I'm remembering what it was like: first install back, big client, overly ambitious design for a solo, breastfeeding, sleep-deprived human artist in a tight window of time. If you'd asked me before Margot whether being a mother might make me a better artist, I'd probably have laughed. But I feel like I got an extra life now. by @rymie

In the Fall I was commissioned to illustrate a featured story + cover about AI for Scripps College. The article was full spectrum, investigating how AI was already impacting learning at the liberal arts college & general feelings on campus. Scripps asked me to incorporate AI into my process...which other illustrators simply refused to do & I respect that.
So I took the job & I did use AI… Not as content creation but as a map of what not to do. As inspo for the lowest hanging fruit I need not pick. I fed the scope into a language model, noted its base ideas, and set them aside. For GLITCH and ECHO I used image generators’ hallucinations deliberately.
I’m still in the contradiction of what AI means to artists, humans, the planet. Being an illustrator in the Bay Area the vibe is Pro tech…NY I LOVE YOU
