Meet Shaun Morrison of SFM Designs, an Oregon maker creating unique designs in stone, metal, and leather, including striking belt buckles, bolos, and jewelry. His metalwork is hand-designed, making every piece one of a kind.

Every stone already has a story, and we especially love the philosophy behind Shaun’s work: the patterns inside stones are “worlds unto themselves.”

Morrisonite Jasper Sterling Silver Belt Buckle

Boy. This show is going to break me. Start wearing necklaces again, start wearing belts again, take down some of my art and put up someone else’s… Gorgeous work, Shaun. 🐦‍⬛

In the Artist’s words:
I have worked with leather since receiving a kit as a youngster but could never find nice buckles for the belts that I made. After a long career in scientific research, I took metalsmithing classes and began to design and fabricate my own belt buckles. After discovering the amazing patterns and colors hidden in a variety of stones, I learned the art of lapidary and began to include beautiful stones in my unique belt buckles.

I strive to provide frames for the beautiful patterns and colors that Nature, the ultimate artist, has hidden in the stones she has created through the millennia. In my artwork, I design and make unique jewelry items, including belt buckles, bolos and pendants featuring PNW jaspers and other beautiful stones. I do my own lapidary work to make the cabochons in my pieces. I am also the metalsmith, working in silver and bronze. I also make belts for my buckles which I sell and fit on site.

My art is highly unique not only for the lapidary work that I do, but also because no other jewelers that I've seen at art shows make belt buckles.
