Nyotaimori | 女体盛り— the Japanese practice of eating sushi or sashimi off a naked woman’s body. A common dining experience for businessmen, and elites.

The model is reduced to both an overtly sexualized figure, and that of a literal object, a plate to hold food. She remains still and silent, whilst those around her feed off her, literally and energetically.

She is simultaneously a powerless object, and the centrepiece of the room. She commands power, she is the main course. Without her, the experience would be reduced to a simple luncheon.

For my spin on ‘nyotaimori’ I invited people to reflect on the connection between women and food throughout history and culture.
Through carefully hand baked desserts i invite the audience to delve into both the oppression and self-expression that cooking has allowed women throughout history. A declaration of love and sensuality. A culmination of a woman’s two greatest areas of conditioning, imprisonment, and ultimately reclamation: the kitchen and the bedroom.

Introducing our fairies that will bless us with their work at our Love With No Love Hearts exhibition, 28-29th August

Marine One’s (@marine_one_art) practice explores how identity is constructed through gender, cultural expectations, memory, and visual culture. Working across textiles, sculpture, painting, and installation, Marine reconstruct familiar images using printed fabric, hand sewing, digital collage, and soft materials. Growing up in Japan and later living in Europe informs her interest in how social codes shift across cultures. She use softness, humour, and the uncanny to destabilise familiar imagery, creating works that initially appear playful or comforting before revealing more complex questions around masculinity, belonging, and the expectations that shape how we see ourselves and others.

Emilia McSherry (@s0rry) is an Australian conceptual and performance artist whose work explores the intersection of sexuality, memory, and the enduring impacts of trauma on the body. Through performance, installation, and embodied practice, their work investigates the body as both archive and site of resistance; inviting audiences to engage with feelings of discomfort and resistance and challenge internalised preconceptions surrounding intimacy and sensuality.

@elenimelenii_ together with Chloe das Neves (@dooeclo) will present a dance performance created by Chloe das Neves, through their movement they will explore connection, religion and femininity.
