Today is my 23rd birthday
Today is 175 in the war

But this year has come completely different from the rest of the previous years. This year has come very sad for me, my family, and all the Palestinian people. It has come while we are not well. It has come while our hearts are hurting.

Every year I would celebrate my birthday with my family and friends and accept gifts and spend a wonderful time together, but the war made us forget our beautiful days and our simple lives. The war made us lose friends, it made me lose my uncle, and the biggest loss for me was my mother. I lost her on 2/26/2024.
The war also made us lose the homes that hold our memories and stole our most basic rights 😭💔

Israel tightened the siege imposed on Gaza, and imposed a comprehensive closure 🥺
From the time I was born until this day, I have not seen a good future or a good day in my life. Here life has become very bad.
I, like Salama, have witnessed in my life the most heinous crimes committed by the Israeli occupation of the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the siege 💔🇵🇸

My name is Salama, I’m 24 years old. I once dreamed of graduating from university, but this war stole everything from me.
I lost my mother, my friends, and everything I had.
In this video, you’ll see my face, my life, my pain.
These are not just pictures — this is my reality.

My first Eid without me, my mother💔

It will be the first Eid without your kiss without your laugh without your words without your voice without your prayers

Sorry, Eid, no Eid without my mother, no joy without my mother, no life without my mother

All my days have become the same as you leave me

No patience enabled me to forget you,,. Neither the days convinced me of your departure

I miss your voice and your souls

Mom 💔 for your prayers I miss your words

I wouldn't cry🥺 if it wasn't for your departure, which bows my back every day

May God have mercy on you, you who hurt me, your separation

Three years have passed, but to me, they are not just years.

They are the years in which I lost my home, my university, my mother, and so many parts of the life I once knew.

I lived through displacement, fear, and hunger. I walked long distances searching for water and safety, slept in tents, and spent countless nights listening to explosions.

But among all these ruins, I held on to my dreams.

I am still learning.
I am still writing.
And I am still trying to believe that there is a future waiting for me.

October 7, 2023 was supposed to be my graduation day. Instead, it became the beginning of a completely different life.

These are not just memories of war.

This is my life.
And I am still living it.

I am Simo, from Gaza.

And I am still here.

I would be truly grateful if my voice could reach as many people as possible.

A memory I will carry with me for the rest of my life… a memory of the famine in northern Gaza.

What I experienced there, what my family experienced, and what thousands of other families went through is beyond what words can describe. I never shared these scenes before because, at that time, I barely had any internet connection to tell the world what was happening.

That day, I went to Al-Rashid Street, along the coast of Gaza. I carried with me a fear and pain that I still cannot fully put into words. I witnessed massacres with my own eyes. I watched people who were simply trying to find food for their families face death.

I will never forget how we slept in the streets, waiting for aid trucks to arrive, hoping to get something—anything—to feed our families. We knew that the road to food could become a road to death. At the checkpoints, Israeli forces opened fire directly, and the fear of being killed followed us with every step.

We were not asking for luxury. We were not asking for a normal life. We were simply fighting for the right to survive.

We lost people. We lost our homes. We lost our dreams. And with every passing day, we lost another part of ourselves. There are scenes that will remain burned into my memory forever, no matter how much time passes.

This video is not just a memory. It is a piece of the life we lived here while much of the world remained far away from what was happening.

I want you to see it. I want you to hear us. I want you to share our lives and everything we have been through. Please do not let these memories disappear, and do not let the suffering of Gaza’s families become nothing more than numbers in the news.

We were there. We lived through it. We lost so much. And we are still trying to survive.

Moments before the bombing, I was filming a normal video of me and my nephew on our way back to the camp. I was telling him that people are moving while we are returning, and he said to me: “God willing, we will arrive well and safely.”

We didn’t know these words would be the last quiet moment before the explosion. 💔

Suddenly, the sound of the bombing sounded very hard near us, and the video turned from an ordinary moment into a memory that carried fear and sadness.

This is not a story of the news... This is our daily reality. We live every moment and we don’t know what will happen in the next moment.

Don’t forget Gaza and its people from your prayers. 🤍

First, learn exactly what that looks like. In this post, we share that a KG of flour is selling for $70. A 25 KG bag, which is enough to feed a family for a few days is selling for $600.

Where you live, that might be your monthly rent. Flour for a family = the cost of monthly rent.

We don’t write these words seeking pity, but to prove that we are still alive — surrounded by death from every direction 💔🕯️
Every day, survival is an achievement, and seeing the morning feels like a miracle 🌑➡️🌤️
The bombs leave no room for voices 💣🔇, but we refuse to be silent — silence is betrayal to those we’ve lost, and to those still waiting beneath the rubble ⚰️🕳️

On My 24th Birthday… No Celebration, Only Resilience.

🎂💔 March 30 is not just my birthday; it’s also Palestinian Land Day—a reminder that we belong to this land, no matter how hard they try to erase us. This is my second birthday under genocide, but this year is different… It falls in Ramadan 🌙, followed by Eid 🕊️.

Three Occasions in One Day… But No Joy.
🎂💔 March 30, 2024, marks my birthday, Land Day, and Eid. Anywhere else, it would be a day of celebration, but in Gaza, joy is stolen from us. While the world gathers with loved ones, we mourn our lost ones, starve, and struggle to survive under bombardment. How can we celebrate amidst the destruction?

The Day My Graduation Turned Into a Nightmare
🎓➡️💣 October 7, 2023, was supposed to be the start of my future, but instead, it became the beginning of endless suffering. Since that day, we’ve faced displacement, starvation, and unimaginable loss. We’ve escaped death countless times, yet we keep fighting to survive.

Managing famine in Gaza by Salama Al-Ladaa

The following is an excerpt from his essay in our Deluxe Food Edition:

Food prices in northern Gaza

Under the ongoing siege and total destruction, food prices in Gaza have skyrocketed to unimaginable levels. What was once available to everyone has now become a distant dream. A kilogram of rice, once considered a basic ingredient, is now priced beyond the purchasing power of many families. Meat and fruits have become luxuries that we can no longer even imagine, and we are forced to rely on canned goods and legumes, which barely stave off hunger.

As each day passes, the famine worsens, with children suffering more than ever from malnutrition. The war has not only destroyed our homes and institutions but has also annihilated our food security, creating a hunger crisis we never thought possible.

Finally, our only wish is for this war to stop, for us to return to a simple and safe life where we can live with dignity. We speak with the hope that gives us strength because we believe there are people who hear us, and a better tomorrow may come.
