Once mainly something that existed in a live setting, the group drifts further into its own orbit with a second collection of songs. What began as a collaboration between two voices now expands with the presence of a third, adding new layers that sometimes verge on something almost familiar.

The work continues to explore a method that feels less like collecting from the outside and more like rearranging from within. Fragments are taken apart and reassembled: rhythms, echoes, remnants of recognizable forms. This time, there is a stronger sense of movement, though it never quite settles. The vocals wander through it all, as if searching without urgency to arrive. At unexpected moments, other sounds surface briefly, then disappear again. The whole seems to find comfort in its own instability.

The titles exist somewhat independently, like small pieces that don’t fully explain themselves. In that distance, they open up space for interpretation. Language itself feels uncertain: questioned, reshaped, exchanged. The work circles around ideas of expression and relevance without resolving them, touching lightly on themes that resist being stated directly.

The result feels suspended between places, moods, or states, never entirely grounded. There’s a sense of contrast throughout, as if different impulses coexist without needing to agree. If it seems out of step at times, it may simply be following a rhythm of its own.

Difficult to pin down, more immediate in experience than in description. It recalls unlikely combinations and shifting textures, at once playful, disoriented, and quietly precise.

The people behind it move between different disciplines, carrying traces of those practices into this work.

Wed 21st Oct a night of @stroom.tv with Sergeant , Daisy Ray and Glasgows own Gichard… A night of music from Belgium and Glasgow…
Sergeant makes music like editing an erratic film: cutting, splicing, and reassembling sounds into a whirlwind of unexpected turns. The trio – filmmaker/composer Benjamin Cools, search-singing actor Ferre Marnef, and sonic surfer Geraldine Vanspauwen – strike a delicate balance between post-punk’s jagged edges, krautrock’s relentless drive, and an unpredictable pop energy that keeps your heart racing.

Their sound is a plunderphonic mess of fractured rhythms and clashing textures: always on the move, never in balance. It’s like The Avalanches throwing a party with pagan whistles, distorted bells, and dubby basslines. Flutes squawk as if they’re trying to outrun the beat, and melodies splinter into chaotic joyrides. Imagine Micachu & The Shapes playing hopscotch with Robert Wyatt, or Sonic Youth dissolving in a glass of sparkling water and vodka: fizzy, intoxicating, yet brutally honest at the end. Live, Sergeant stretch their music to experimental heights, pushing songs into a fever pitch, scrambling them into something even more untamed. The room fills with foolish critique, a controlled stumble, a sound that keeps running even when it’s lost track of where it’s headed.

Gichard are Chas Lalli and Lisa Jones, a Glaswegian duo writing surrealistic, post-punk-inflected vignettes laden with hooks and with a foot in the underground. Previously collaborating in the band Dragged Up.

Daisy Ray’s (BE) music hovers between whimsical EDM, witty art-pop, and nursery rhyme-like storytelling. Once in a while described as cartoonish yet cerebral, her work channels a surreal, tongue-in-cheek spirit. taken in The Old Hairdressers by @s_sergeant_t

One week until we welcome a trio of artists for the Stroom label showcase!

The Lubber Fiend loves record labels - there is no better way to discover music. A good record label should coalesce around a scene or a city or a genre - and a great record label should mark out its own world. Stroom does exactly this and has consistently been putting out some of the best music of the last 5-10 years. The label hops from genre to genre and artist to artist but seems to weave it all together into a coherent whole. It’s wholly committed to experimental music but does not stray away from an approachable sound that encompasses pop and electronic music as much as it does the avant-garde. We are extremely pleased to announce two bands from the label roster will be joining us in the form of Sergeant and Felicity J Lord, alongside Daisy Ray!

“Sergeant have a crystalline vision for their murky, misty, psychedelic music, and here it is executed brilliantly.” - The Quietus

“If their last record was “DJ Shadow in reverse”, made from collaged elements and half-songs, ‘Symbols’ is a suite of proper compositions that dissolve as they play out, with tempos fluctuating and components mutating and vaporizing as Marnef sings. It’s pop music that’s engineered with Martin Hannett’s ear for wacked-out production - fans of Ariel Pink (before he went full fash) or Panda Bear’s ‘Person Pitch’ should investigate without delay.” -Boomkat

Felicity J Lord is a band, a word which usually means a group of musicians (which is also true) but here means a group of misfits, internet lurkers, poets, polka-dotted ballerinas, CEOs, time travellers, and forever-kids. Felicity J Lord is a company, a family, a video game, a never-ending play in two acts. You are in Act I, welcome.

Daisy Ray offers up screwed selections ranging from new beat gunk to lo-fi digidub and grimy noise, somewhere between Petronn Sphene, Lolina and Ace of Bass?! by @s_sergeant_t

FRI 23 OCT: SERGEANT + DAISY RAY

A night of @stroom.tv! Belgian trio Sergeant make music like an erratic film edit: sounds cut, spliced and reassembled into songs that keep swerving away from where they seemed to be heading. Filmmaker/composer Benjamin Cools, actor and vocalist Ferre Marnef and Geraldine Vanspauwen pull together post-punk, krautrock and pop through fractured rhythms, dubby basslines, whistles, bells, squawking flute and sudden melodic turns.

Their music has a deliberately unstable logic, with the precision of montage constantly threatening to fall into chaos. Live, that instability is pushed further, songs stretched and scrambled until the joins start to show and the whole thing feels perpetually on the verge of outrunning itself.

Also from Belgium, Daisy Ray works somewhere between whimsical sharply comic art-pop and nursery-rhyme storytelling. Her music has been described as both cartoonish and cerebral, using surrealism and a deliberately tongue-in-cheek sensibility to make pop feel strange without losing its immediacy.

A double bill united by a shared pleasure in taking pop apart - one through restless collage and rhythmic derailment, the other through absurdity, miniature narratives and warped electronic form.

@curbside.lambsear
