The River Remembers 3:16In my video performance, The River Remembers, I explore the concept of “hauntology”-the idea that the past persists in the present like a recurring, fragmented memory. By placing a spirit draped in black against the constant, rhythmic flow of the San Marcos River, I examine the liminal space between life and death. In the history of death, water often represents a boundary or passage; here, the spirit does not cross over but remains “stuck” in a loop, much like a traumatic or nostalgic memory. The decision to use a Super 8 film aesthetic is central to this concept, as the grain and flickering light act as a visual metaphor for the decay of time, suggesting that while the spirit lives on, our connection to them is fading and exists only as a haunting echo in the landscape.This work responds to Xandra Ibarra’s Nothing Lower Than I by reinterpreting her exploration of the abject body. While Ibarra invokes the figure of the zombie to think through disability and dehumanization, I utilize the ghost to discuss absence and the “afterlife” of a person’s presence in a specific site. I emulate Ibarra’s structural use of contrast by juxtaposing a somber, dark silhouette against a vibrant, idyllic natural environment, highlighting the isolation of the “othered” subject. Furthermore, by adopting an archival film style, I respond to Ibarra’s own study of historical performance archives, presenting my contemporary performance as if it were a long-lost historical document, longing for a proximity to the living world that it can no longer physically touch. by @sa_sergi0229

San Marcos Community Part 4Tantra April, 2026There is genuinely nothing quite like Thursday nights at Tantra. Every week, the patio just turns into this incredibly warm, welcoming space where it’s so easy to just strike up a conversation, meet new people, and leave with a few more friends than you started with. It’s easily my favorite tradition because it’s not just a show you sit and watch-it’s entirely about community and participating.
