I got into an accident a week before the 20th July protest.
I've been sitting home with a plaster on my leg scrolling through every reel that comes my way and they are all filled with agony and despair and screams. Peaceful protests continue to be disrupted in attempts to provoke violence. A truck full of stones and pre-thrashed torn down cars being placed near the protest sites to paint these 'students' as inhumane and violent. In light of the current events I re-watched Rang De Basanti the other day, and this monologue by DJ hit home, feeling helpless and disheartened. Shoutout Aadhaar bhaiya for making me watch this movie in college.

The visuals are sad but I can't help but feel a sense of belonging and pride in the movement as a whole. I saw a reel where some researcher studied all peaceful protests from the past 100 years and get this. Only 5% of the country's population protesting actively was estimated to be enough to get demands met in a peaceful protest. 5% is doable, but emphasis on actively protesting. I still have hope in the institutions. This protest is not a sprint but a marathon and I hope to join as soon as I'm back on my feet. by @saaaaaalik

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind answers one crucial question for me. And it is, can you make me hate Elijah Wood. The answer is yes.

If he had worn a wig, maybe the answer would've been different.

But all jokes aside, the original ending to this movie was written to be sadder than the cut that made out. It was supposed to be a repeated loop of them erasing each other again and again and falling back in love again and again, which according to a cinephile youtuber was shown in the final scene when their scene of playing in the snow is repeated and looped back again and again. Which brings me to my conclusion that these cinephiles are the real losers.

I have nothing to add here, it's just two flawed characters with their own issues and insecurities trying to love each other the best they can and failing at it miserably and finding each other again. This movie is a beacon of hope for all the hopecore incels who were once dumped by their partners. I did not mean to make the caption this snarky but amazing movie. Love you Jim Carrey, I hope you are still alive and not been replaced like Joe Biden. by @saaaaaalik

I hope this video overstimulates you enough.

Mumbai was overstimulating in all senses. This was my first time travelling solo to anywhere actually. It's just a fever dream in my head. It is very common for people my age to go to different cities I am not part of that faction of society it is very uncommon and rare for me, fck you. But Mumbai had built up a lot of hype over the years in my head because of a lot potential plans being cancelled. It's literally not that deep gang. Traffic bohot zaada hai. Congested ahh place. Everyone in the local looked tired. The "Spirit of Mumbai" looked sadder up close than how it was romanticized in my head. I did not know you were supposed to stand IN BETWEEN THE SEATS WITH YOUR BUM ON PEOPLE'S faces to get a seat in local. BUT ALSO, the cyber cafes were so goated, I sat and worked for 20 rupees in ac with wifi, I would do unspeakable things to get something like this here. Reading the inscription on the Gateway of India pissed me off so much "their Imperial Majesties King George V and Queen Mary".
Also visited some art gallery where they had in exhibition about the verticalness of Mumbai, which made me notice the tall thin buildings more than I would've

The touristy places were, well filled with.. well, tourists (me). The part I liked the most and stayed at the least was marine drive. Marine Drive is such a good third space to have, looking over the sky line as you wind down or something. I was in Mumbai for 7 days, and I didn't learn anything that is going to stay with me for the rest of my life but I got to see cool shit. by @saaaaaalik

Remembering the og revenge story.

The only part that bugged me in the re-watch is that Sanjay's character journals in hindi. An all time classic. Listened to Kaghaz and immediately imagined ghajini's visuals, had to bring this to life. by @saaaaaalik

This is baraut in 2026.
What I remember is baraut from 10 years ago.

Baraut from 10 years ago is what I remembered when I first listened to The Mountain by Gorillaz. I remember Baraut being colourful and bright and communal. I remember the long walks near "neher", I remember playing in the abandoned hospital at night, being bitten by a hoard of mosquito. I remember playing cricket on the roof. I remember getting "jharmani-touched" out (jharmani-touch out is something one cousins made up to get the bat from me) I remember putting my finger in the open drain (naala, in my defence the roadside open drain had running water, and it used to be clean and I was dumb and young), I remember electricity cuts in the middle of the night, I remember sitting on a cot in the open. I remember a lot but I have no physical or digital proof of any of it.

I went back again in the first week of 2026. There were no electricity cuts, we didn't go on a walk by the neher, we did bonfire not cricket on the roof, and I didn't put my finger in the open drain. The house is bigger physically, 2 more floors and so many rooms but I remember the 2 rooms and one roof being bigger than they probably were.

I tried to capture a lot this time around, here's some of it. by @saaaaaalik

Peepli Live (2/2)

One character that stood out in the movie was this old skinny farmer, Hori Mehto, at first I thought he was a representation of the everyday hard working farmer, I dug around some articles and found that this movie is
@anusharizvi2018 's tribute to Premchand.

Hori Mehto is a tribute to the character of Hori Mehto from the book "Godan" by Premchand, which tells us the story of a 'Farmer becoming Daily Wage Worker.' which is what happens to Nattha at the end of the movie.

I just wish Rakesh could become the underdog journalist and cover stories of the people of peepli, I wanted to see that so bad, but oh well. by @saaaaaalik

Peepli Live (1/2)

If you haven't watched the movie, please go watch it.

The characters don't show their plight by playing the victim or scream at the top of their lungs, it's seen in the helplessness and the limited choices that a common man of Nattha's stature has. Everything about this movie is sad, even the funny bits. I think you should watch it, did i mention you should watch it? i think you should. Good watch. by @saaaaaalik

“Pam doesn’t deserve Jim”

There is a lot of discourse on reddit threads and the office forums around this topic. Most of these discussions stem from how Jim has sacrificed more, and how Pam has just made a lot of stupid decisions, quitting art school with nothing to show for it, quitting and joining the Michael Scott paper company, and has overall lived a life of mediocrity and indecisiveness. But this doesn’t seem to bother Jim in any point of the story, because love and companionship isn’t built on how convenient it is. It’s just about taking a leap of faith and standing up for each other. Pam’s flaws also look heightened because the show makers wanted Jim to be the relatable normal character. Jim’s character looks better because Pam just loses so much, but what even is love if it dwindles on the sight of failure. Pam used to come home early from art school for Jim, raised the kids without Jim's help several days per week while he pursued Athlead, and at the end of the series she sells the house so that they can go all-in on Jim's dream. The critical eye sees a lot, and while I agree it’s weird talking about a fictional couple from a decade old show, the critical eye does see a lot but only the feet sunk in mud can feel its warmth. by @saaaaaalik
