POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Dear Friends of SAAF,

That’s our roof at 818 E. Grayson. BCAD says our building was built in 1973. SAAF moved in in 1991. It has seen a lot over the past 35 years and this building holds many memories. It is structurally sound. The roof is not.

After years of patching the many leaks, putting out buckets, packing down towels - MANY MANY towels, the indoor lake that forms in Cafe SAAF and the falling down ceiling, we started the process of getting quotes in May of this year.

Six quotes and an asbestos survey later, we have selected a company to replace the roof. They’re LGBTQ+ Chamber members so we’re happy to keep the love in the community.

But roofs don’t come cheap, especially on a 13,000 square foot building. With generous discounts from the company, it’ll cost us close to $250,000 (we also have to repair some wiring damaged by the leaks). We are working with our bank for a loan, applying for emergency funds, and asking you, our long time and new supporters, to help. Every dollar makes a difference.

Helping us replace the roof means that we can continue to serve 2000 people living with HIV each year in our clinic and support programs, 3000 people coming to SAAF for HIV/STI testing, 250 patients on PrEP, 200 people receiving counseling, and so much more.

Donate today and help keep our building alive to serve thousands more.

Unfortunately, Friday’s rains were so intense that a number of new leaks formed and the flooding inside made the Cafe unsafe for clients. We had to close for the weekend. We re-opened the Cafe today and will watch for any more storms coming our way. by @saafhouse1986

IMPORTANT INFORMATION! ⚠️👀 by @saafhouse1986

We are coming close to the season when remembrance becomes an especially powerful act of resistance. Twenty-eight years ago, 21-year-old Matthew Shepard died on October 12 after being brutally beaten and left for dead because he was gay.

1998 may seem like a long time ago, but for some of us, it was just yesterday. Our fight now is to ensure this isn't our tomorrow. At SAAF, we stand with, for, and in front of our LGBTQ+ community. Our commitment to being a safe space means being ready to fight for our rights, our dignity, and our humanity. SAAF will continue to be a beacon of hope and a welcoming place for all.

As we remember Matthew, we unite in love rather than hate.

---
