✨ A little intro! ✨ Lots of new faces here lately (hi! 👋), so time to reintroduce myself. I’m Sarah, 43 years old Married to Kim, mama to two lovely girls and full-time teacher to a wild bunch of five-year-olds. I first learned to sew in secondary school… and I hated it back then 😅 But I picked it up again in 2009, after finding a piece of fabric at a fleamarket I wanted to turn into a dress. Luckily, my mum and grandmother used to sew, so there was a sewing machine close at hand. That’s when the spark returned, and I haven’t looked back since. I even had a sewing blog for a few years — the link is in my bio, but please don’t judge me, I abandoned it years ago 🫣 A few things I love deeply: beautiful colour combinations and prints, stroking fabrics (you know what I mean!), treasure hunting in secondhand shops, cats, dancing, and a nice glass of rosé. I’m a very selfish sewist — if it doesn’t go into my closet, it rarely makes it to the sewing table 😅 (okay, my family gets the occasional handmade treat too). Sewing is my happy place, my zen moment, and honestly… the only kind of selfishness I fully endorse. I’m so happy you’re here — feel free to say hi or just quietly enjoy the fabric-filled chaos 😉 by @saar_sews
Addicted to sewing pants? Moi? 🙈 😅 I sewed up the Fibre Mood Sora pants from the latest issue of Fibre Mood, and I really like them! Choosing the size was tricky, as the size chart put me in a size 40, but the finished garment measurements suggested quite a lot of ease. So I decided to go for a size 38 instead. I drafted a curved waistband using my Fibre Mood Dasha pants as a guide. Halfway through sewing, I had a little moment of panic, thinking I’d made the wrong call. They seemed a little too snug, so I reduced all the vertical seam allowances from 1 cm to 0.5 cm. Thankfully, that little trick worked — they fit! A few imperfections here and there, but the fabric makes up for it all: a sturdy yet wonderfully soft canvas by Atelier Brunette in Iced Mocha. I absolutely love this colour — it can look mustardy or more taupe depending on what you pair it with. Such a lovely shade for autumn! 🤎🤎 The inside is finished with some Robert Kaufman quilting cotton from my stash. Swipe for a little black cat cameo 🙂 #fibremoodsora #fibremood #sewingpants #barrelpants #atelierbrunettefabrics by @saar_sews
Hi there! 👋 September is almost over — a busy month with the start of a new school year and finding our way back into the school routine. Not much time for sewing, but this latest handmade outfit has already been getting plenty of wear as we dip our toes into autumn! 🍂 I made another Emile Barrel Pant, which has definitely become one of my favourite pants patterns this year. An elasticated waist will always have a little head start in my book, and that barrel shape is obviously very much on trend right now. Same size as last time, a 42, but I raised the waist by 3 cm and added back pockets. They might be sitting a tiny bit too high, but I’m not losing any sleep over it. 😌 The top is the Friedl in size M from La Maison Victor, a sewing magazine that sadly no longer exists 💔 I spotted this top a while ago on Laure @goudblomme and Jolien @studiosew_nl and immediately thought of this orange summer knit from @destoffenkamer that had been hibernating in my stash. Luckily, Laure lent me her copy so I could trace the pattern. Thank you, sweetie! 😘 I did f*ck up a little by cutting the fabric in the wrong direction, so the wrong side is now facing out. But hey, I’ve decided not to lose any sleep over that either! 😅 What do you think of my September outfit? Swipe to see it move! ➡️ #emilebarrelpants #lmvfriedl #orangetop #barreljeansoutfit #handmadeoutfit by @saar_sews
A little Paris souvenir that took me a few months to finish. 🇫🇷 Last winter I visited the @atelierbrunette shop in Paris and fell for this La Veste. It was made in their beautiful denim, and when I found the very last piece of that fabric on the bolt, it was an easy choice. I finally made it in August, taking my time with all that topstitching. Very slow sewing — my kind of yoga, really. 😌 Now that the mornings are getting cooler, it’s getting plenty of wear already. The details I love most: • those little corner details at the hems • the oversized collar • the back yoke, which makes the inside just as nice as the outside • and those big pockets — perfect for hands, phone, keys and all the other random stuff I apparently need to carry around. I can’t wait to wear it lots and watch the denim soften and develop that beautiful worn-in look that only gets better with time. #lavesteatelierbrunette #denimjacket #atelierbrunette by @saar_sews

#fibremoodlucia #fibremoodjosieboxytop #fibremoodveya #frlpaintersshirt by @saar_sews
🌺 #fibremoodlucia #fibremood by @saar_sews
So… apparently that 27°C heatwave is over and we’re heading straight into maybe I should start wearing sleeves again season. 🥺😅 Luckily, I have the perfect blouse for that. Meet the Veya blouse by Fibre Mood, one of the patterns in the new Fibre Mood collection, launching today! It works perfectly with pieces already in my summer wardrobe, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be wearing it a lot this autumn too. Basically: a blouse that’s ready for the slightly less summery days ahead. Here I’m wearing it with my Fibre Mood Fulki skirt and my Bel Étoile Bay pants. 🩵Pattern: #fibremoodveya in size S. I sized down and it fits totally fine, but I think I’ll make a size M next time to keep a bit more of the oversized fit. I also shortened it by 3 cm. 🩵Fabric: fine chambray from France @tissugregoire #linkpartyed40 #fibremood by @saar_sews
Adventures in making swimwear 💦 Just a heads-up: the last 3 photos feature me wearing my handmade bikini — don’t swipe if that’s not your thing! 😉 And I’ll admit, posting myself in a bikini took a fair bit of overthinking and second-guessing, but here I am. Because all bodies are good bodies! I’ve made a few bralettes before — some actually wearable, others… not so much. 😅 But I was in the mood for a new challenge, so swimwear it was! After a few YouTube tutorials and a little rabbit hole on the @edgewaterave webshop, I stocked up on stretch needles, Lycra and “naked elastic” and got started. Then my overlocker decided to act up before I’d even properly started! 😂 So I made the whole set on my sewing machine, using a zigzag stitch — which actually felt a little safer for a first attempt with slippery Lycra. The bikini is designed to be reversible, but the orange fabric turned out to be a little too sheer for my liking, so I made the top entirely in the same fabric instead. It’s far from perfect: the bottoms are wavy, the seams show slightly when the fabric is under tension, and next time I’d probably size up for the top. Getting the elastic tension right is definitely a learning curve! But I had SO much fun making it. And most importantly, I wore it a lot on holiday because it actually fits well and is super comfortable. Practice makes perfect, right? So… I’m calling this a win. 💦 Have you ever tried making your own swimwear? 🌸 Pattern: Maxine top & Whitney bottoms by @edgewaterave 🌸 Fabric & elastic: @katiafabrics @creasis_ronse 🌸 Shirt: #paintershirt by @faithrowanleeves by @saar_sews
It is still short season! 💜 Fabric: stonewashed linen from @studiokintsu 🪡 Pattern: #fibremooddahlia @fibremood in size 40, omitted the cuffs, shortened by 2cm and made a curved waistband 🌼 Button : a lucky find in a friend’s button collection. 💛 Top : was actually a sweater I bought at Think Twice. I didn’t wear it very often until I cut the sleeves off. Summerwardrobe | handmade shorts | Fibremood Dahlia by @saar_sews
Meet my new shorts! 💜 I made them in this stonewashed lilac linen I had been eyeing at @studiokintsu since last summer. When I recently got a voucher, the decision was pretty much made for me. 😅 And yes, I took four meters home… because thanks to @slowbeautyforwildwomen’s color analysis, I now know that lilac is one of my colors. So now I can make a matching top too! Or maybe a jacket? Or… 😅🤭 The pattern is the Dahlia from Fibre Mood, and I made a size 40 without any adjustments, apart from making a curved waistband to better follow the shape of my waist. After the first fitting, I decided to unpick the hem bands. They made the shorts flare out a little more than I liked, and I wanted them a bit shorter too. Swipe to see the “before” and for a peek at the inside, because #sewprettyinside! ✨ #fibremooddahlia #fibremood @fibremood Summerwardrobe | handmade shorts | Fibremood Dahlia by @saar_sews
Does anyone else do this? 😅 Every time I’m about to leave for vacation, I suddenly get the urge to sew just one more thing. This floral linen dress had been living in my head… and somehow it just had to come on vacation with me. 🤭 I started it at 4 p.m. the afternoon before we left. Our suitcases were basically packed, most of them were already in the car… but I spotted one little window of time and thought, I can totally sew that dress. 🤭 It definitely helped that I’d already made this pattern before—it’s such a quick sew. So here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at this last-minute make, with some satisfying sewing sounds along the way. Does anyone else always squeeze in one last sewing project before going on vacation? Robe Lison ~ summer dress ~ handmade wardrobe by @saar_sews
